Why is it when a man kills a kid hes some sort of evil pedophile monster, yet when a woman kills a kid shes some pour soul with some form of depression that we all should feel sorry for?
Screw that, i say in either case lock them up and throw away the key. I dont buy that depression crap. There is no excuse for harming or killing a child!

My sister has had postnatal depression and it is an awful, lonely demoralising thing to go thro and Kate well could of or is suffering from this but i am sure someone would of seen this by now if she had. It affects all walks of life of people and is a serious condition. I just feel that if she did not have this condition and IF she is guilty of hurting Maddie and then convicted i am sure her Lawyer will use this as an defence which in my opinion would make a mockery of a really serious condition.

EDIT

Good point DollyBird. You are right why havent the full time Nanny or the creche staff commented on how "hysterical" the children where.

Do you know? I don't think people on here will not be happy until they have heard the news that she has killed herself due to depression.

You are all hounding a mother who has lost her daughter and you have nothing better to do then ask question that are just speculations.

My mum had depression so bad that she couldn't handle her life. She tried to end it all and take us with her as she didn't want to leave us behind. The press had a field day and turned the story around to paint her as a bad mother but she wasn't she was such a loving mother. We were told on a daily basis that we were loved. She suffered with depression for over 40 years and then two years ago(Sept 19th) she took a fatal over dose. Do you know why? The **** local paper ran the story again for no reason. They did a piece about parents that kills or try to kill their children. When you think some thing is dead an buried for over 28 years and then for no reason the paper throws the story out in the public. They even had the cheek to sit in the inquest and wrote a story of how they were not to blame.

This is why I'm so angry with the media leaking speculations and not just letting justice run it's course.

Seeing people on here grabbing at every option to jump in with their speculations is like watching what happened to my mum. Neighbours that were not around when we were kids pointing their fingers and whispering amongst themselves.

Just for five minutes, please try to put yourself in Kate McCanns shoes. The press are dangerous and if you could imagine how this feels just for five minutes then maybe people would not be so quick to judge.

edit: I'm sorry too as I miss my mum every day. I can't put my faith in the press or believe what they say as I've seen what can happen when you are in their sights.

no excuses , there are many people in the world that are bringing up children up on their own ,without any help or support from family and friends ,struggling to get by on very little money ,hoping that some day their life will change for the better ,i've known people with severe depression ,but they get on with it , the children are the very reason that keeps them going , if she did have post natal depression , how come noone noticed ,i don't buy it i'm sorry but madeline deserved/deserves better and so do the twins

I think this could be the case if it proves true Kate did it.

I feel really sorry for her to be honest - when I read what she put in her diary (which absolutely should not have been leaked to the press - its against their laws in Portugal):-

"The 39-year-old GP is reported to have written about how difficult it was to control Madeleine and her two-year- old brother and sister, and how her husband Gerry often left her to get on with family duties on her own. "

She went through IVF to have the kids and then had to struggle with all the aftermath of that and the fact her husband didn't lift a finger to help out.

I feel more sympathy towards her now than I ever have. Before I thought she was cold, heartless and weird now I think poor woman, being left to cope with all this alone.

Post natal depression and struggling to cope may well be the verdict on this. She deserves sympathy in these circumstances. Her husband is useless and no doubt absent a lot of the time and she was carrying all the guilt about not being able to cope.

it is very possible that Kate could be suffering from post natal depression, she had 3 children very close together which i imagine would of been very draining and hard work, she comes across as not being a very strong person, in fact she comes across as very fragile. having said that she did train to become a doctor and that is no easy thing and requires great dedication, discipline and strength, there is more to that woman than meets the eye.

Take no notice of Stella, i saw yesterday that she reported someone for posting their condolences to a YA poster who had died, she is truly a horror x

"MIttens" raises a very good point (with such a sad story though...), that the Press will just take this and run with it....and put whatever slant they like on it.

Is it so awful that she might write in her diary that she can't cope very well with young children, doesn't really make her a murderer.

There is no way of knowing yet whether she is guilty or innocent, time will be the only answer.

But in the meantime, can we stop attacking motherhood?? There's nothing the press likes more than a bad mother story.....

I just want to say i have read some of the answers here and well "dave s" whatever happened to innocent till proven guilty?? I can't decide if they have something to do with Maddy going missing but they appear to be loving parents to me. I have a four year old daughter and some days she can be hysterical, hyperactive that's what being a kid means!! i suffered from p.n.d after the birth of my second child, does that mean I'm capable? RUBBISH!!!! If its found that she hasn't had anything to do with it i can't imagine how she will find the strength to carry on! I feel desperately sorry for them!

I dont see how this is anyone's business whether Kate McCann was suffering from PND or not, helping find Madeleine should be everyones ONLY concern

You are all a bunch of vultures waiting for something bad to happen and should be utterly ashamed of yourselves, just imagine what this poor woman is going through, does anyone have a heart, obviously not

Post natal depression? She suffering?what a load of bull **** defence startegy! Her lawyers can't think of any better? That after going into lengthy details about how much trouble she took to conceive. Surely as doctor, she knew about post natal depression. And in any case if that is the reason for murdering your own kid, then why we all are not dead? Our mothers also had to juggle babies and jobs.
Are we to hear next that she was insane with helplessness after caring for three kids!!!!

So what happened to her and Gerry's pleas to the supposed kidnapper to not to harm Madeliene and to all PR they did all this while? And most importantly, what is going to happen to the money collected in name of madeliene ? To be used to treat the so-depressed Kate?
