ive been a care assistant for 4 years. i loved my job at first, but now i hate it. i have to provide personal care to the elderly within their homes.
I feel so depressed gping to work, i cant stomach the smells i have to deal with also my patience is running very thin with the elderly as they treat me like a SLAVE.
Everyone in work (elderlt clients and co workers) they have all noticed how misrable i have become and ive overheard a few of them saying "he doesnt care about the clients he just wants to get in and out as soon as possible"

They are Right. Do you think I should leave my job? Im not sure weather im depressed or i simply just hate my job.

Any ideas on what I should do? (please note, i ould not cause anyone any harm at work) even though my patience is running thin.

I reckon i should find another job....what do you think?

I think you should do something else for awhile. You have burnout! You are not doing yourself , your co-workers and especially your clients any favors!!! Good Luck! Just take a break, you may feel like getting back into nursing if you just give yourself time!

Though you didn't specify in what respect they treated you like SLAVE, i could however suspect of the emotional abuses by your clients....What do you say?....The elderly as far as i can tell you, are uglier in dealing with people...They can be nice and turn the back on you after that...In other words, they could be more cunning and skillful and mean to each other...And i suspect you're still young and are not capable of handling their emotional abuses on you....So, again, if this is true this is for you to experience more to their ugly sides....As to find another job, i consider it optional...

anytime you are doing social service work it wears on you...sounds like you are experiencing burn out at this point and you do need to do something different at least for a while...i would suggest a change in jobs and see how that works for you...you can still stay in the care field...just doing something different....and who knows you may come back to working with the elderly after a break...but you probably do really need a change at this point...

It is a very difficult job you do. I do a lot of visits and glad that I can leave when I want to. you have to have dedication for that type of work, you would be wise to leave, it is not for you, you are honest in your feelings, this I admire, change your job, and good luck, you deserve it.

Yes, time to move on. I do commend you for doing the job you've been doing. Not everyone can do it. it is hard work. If it's not rewarding anymore, find something else, and good luck.
