What do you think that Hogwarts was like when it was first built ? Was it just like a large manor house that expanded itself or what ? And does anyone know what it would be like during 1600-1700 ? 0 points to someone who can give the best answer

Well, it was founded over 1,000 years ago as you know. I am guessing it hasn't changed much, save for modern emnities as far as plumbing and electrical appliances. It would depend (I'm assuming you're writing a fanfic?) on the characters' knowledge of the place and everything. Only some people know certain passwords or have access and knowledge to tools like the Mauraders' Map (obviously not created until the 1970's) or the Room of Requirement. Just ave everything candlelit just like in the book and make sure you don't accidentally reference any kind of magical TV's, radio's, iPod's or any other futuristic nonsense. The wizarding world is a little outdated as it is. :o)

[ha i just realized i gave a similar answer to someone who's already posted. my bad. that's funny we both assumed "fanfic" right off the bat.]

It was probably a dilapidated abandoned old castle secluded and overgrown by forest, that the founders charmed to be suitable as a school. The reason I think it was probably a pre-existing building is because, notice how the potions class room is suppose be dark and dreary like it was once a dungeon. I don't think that if you made a building with the intentions of using as a school you'd opt to have a class room like that. Also It would have been nice and, fair to make 4 towers so that each house had a common room with a view but, instead Hufflepuff's is near the kitchen and Slytherin's by the potions classroom. They (the founders) probably drew straws or something. Hogwarts probably didn't change much threw the centuries from medieval-times to the 1990s. (maybe they didn't have a quidditch pitch at first :P) So between 1600-1700 it was probably nearly identical to the modern Hogwarts, with the exception of superficial things like, different furniture and, less paintings in the headmaster's office etc......Sounds as if you're concocting a fanfic.

When it first opened, I'd say it was a castle. Quite likely the castle was already in place and the founders just used it for their own purpose.

It's great, I just finished there, all O's at my N.E.W.T.'s! But I don't think that it changed a lot during the ages, maybe only new portraits were added through the time and new secrets were discovered.
