Ligeia: Silence is not guilt, but it does imply you have something to hide.

If i were accussed of a serious crime i had not commited i would be screaming from the roof tops 'I didn't do it'. I would answer all questions no matter how tired i was, because if you are telling the WHOLE truth they cannot trip you up as you are being honest and have nothing to hide!

Peace x

Even if that is true, we have no idea what the 40 questions are. They may have been so ridiculous or offensive that she refused to answer them after having been subjected to such a long questioning by an incompetent police force. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

At the moment the Portuguese Police are under intense scrutiny from the world's media coverage. I do not think that in these circumstances any-one in their police force would try to fabricate evidence against anyone. All credibility in the law enforcement of Portugal would be lost.

If my child had been abducted I would not have drummed up this media circus as I believe that this is more harmful to the safety of the child, which then becomes a liability. A liability needing to be disposed of.
Saying this though it was already obvious that the parents didn't care about safety before by leaving the 3 children alone at home whilst out enjoying themselves (fact).

Normal people would either have taken the children with them, entertained in their apartment or got a baby-sitter.

If no forced entry - let's assume the child wandered off. Would she have closed the front door behind her in the first place? What are the chances of a sex-offender finding the child alone at night rather than decent people on holiday who would have ensured her safety. Very slim I think.

I think to normal people that many things in this case are suspicious. Perhaps one day we will find out the truth.

If by chance the McCann's do have to go to court to defend themselves I would suggest that they hire the lawyer who represented OJ Simpson at his murder trial.

( this answer is also for "dollybird" -- who should read the news... then she would know too )

I see what you mean. Here is a transcript of today's news:

" Intense attention has focused on what police found in the hire car rented by Madeleine's parents 25 days after she
went missing. Senior sources linked to the investigation told Portuguese journalists that they discovered "bodily fluids" - not blood - with an 88% match to Madeleine's genetic profile in the boot.

My note: It is facisnating that 25 days AFTER the kid disappears, her body fluids and a clump of the her hair are found in the boot of the car UNDER the carpet of the boot, in THE WELL where the spare tyre/tire is kept. Why would they hire a car 25 days after their kid is missing ?! Veeeery strange. But it goes on :

" Toxicological tests on the liquid show that Madeleine had consumed a "significant" quantity of sleeping tablets and may have overdosed, the French newspaper France Soir reported, citing unnamed sources in Portugal. "

"...the French newspaper France Soir ..." ? -- it now appears that it is not the belief of the Portuguese press alone. Other papers around the world begin to believe where the truth may lie.

Silence may not mean she is guilty but can it not "...be used in a court of law and used against you if you refuse to answer..." any questions ? -- I am sure I keep hearing that one in every film I watch. The plot thickens.... Fascinating stuff!!
And... she could not have been asked only 20 questions. The woman was under questioning for ELEVEN hours. That would mean one question every 33 minutes. LOLOLOL

You know, I don't really want to believe that they could do all these sensational crime, and how I wish that they could really prove the accusers wrong. But I have my doubts at how they behave, their priorities seem to be consistently focused in socializing, good image, never seen any real efforts to look for their child personally, like in closets, or next door neighbors in the resort. It's very politician-like campaign and something doesn't tally somehow. How else could so many readers feel that doubt, when in fact many supported them from the word go. May all these be cleared very very soon, how I wish that Madeleine be found. This hide and seek is just too long. Game over!

At the end of the day it still is innocent until proven guilty - however, as a mother, I have to say - none of it really adds up to me - I have always thought there is more to this story. I work at 4.00am in the morning and my eldest lad works with me whilst my youngest sleeps in the car with a hot water bottle in a yard on our farm, where he is never out of sight!! (please dont ask, he is NEVER out of my sight!!!) - He is almost old enought to be left alone but I would not even dream of it. So, how can you leave toddlers alone? and refuse a babysitting service? All things people say they will have to live with for the rest of their lives and Yes, so they should!! if they have had nothing to do with poor Maddies dissapearance then the guilt should be enough, if its something else, then I hope to god they pay! My mother said if it was me in their shoes, I had better stay away and never come home, because she would swing for me!!!

Also, alot of people are praising them for being so graceful and dignified throught the whole affair:

Would you be so graceful and dignified????

Not me, I would fall apart at the seams - I know parents of missing children are "told" to be composed - but I am afraid, they would not be able to interview me then Full stop.

I am not saying they killed her - because I don't know, but I worry how they act - why take free flights to countries to publicise this??? - why go and visit the pope?
And, the biggest thing I have a problem with is why and how on earth could you let your remaining two children go off to the beach with (in effect) complete strangers - after your daughter was snatched, I know I would not let anyone ANYONE have my children

I dont understand why she didnt answer the questions in the first place, her child is missing, she said she would do everything to cooperate with the PJ, so why isnt she answering these specific questions. It makes her look like she ahs something to hide . I just dont understand her if she is innocent and has nothing to hide and wants to clear her name answer the questions, if she wants to do her best to help madeline answer the questions.
To me there is no reason not to answer the questions unless she has something to hide!!

i think of of those father and mom are at proper incompetent, egocentric nitwits. No confirm is going off to have dinner and leaves 3 babies unattended. If the on an usual foundation Mail's tale is actual, and the father and mom left a door unlocked "in case of fireside" - what contained interior the h*ll have been they thinking? The twins have been too youthful to get out devoid of guy or woman help. Madeleine replaced into sufficiently previous to actual propel herself from the area of domicile yet replaced into decrease than no circumstances sufficiently previous to relish jointly as some element replaced suitable right into a danger and he or she or he would desire to get out. it truly is likewise been reported in multiple components from the very beginning up that the father and mom have stonewalled investigators greater ideal than they have helped. truly isn't clever. At proper incompetent, egocentric nitwits. At worst .... i'm effective all of us have our suspicions.

Peace - speaking as a lawyer I can tell you, no matter how innocent you were, I - and many of my colleagues - could stress you out, confuse you and put enough pressure on you in the end to make you admit you might have done it, or at least admit you had done something wrong, and then we would plea bargain your a*s off!

Best wishes,
Alan.

There is nothing about this whole thing that is not suspictious.

It doesnt make her guilty.

As ive said before...She was being advised by a person practiced in the proceedure and expectations of the portugees law..(she of course is not)

In that situation...with your lawyer telling you not to answer...Would you follow the advice of the person qualified, practised and experienced... or would you go against the grain and answer regardless.... Would she then not have received a million and one questions and insults about ignoring legal advice and doesnt THAT make her guilty...??

If you go to the doctor with an illness... do you ignore his advice or follow it...?
You choose.

It does not look suspicious to McCann supporters.. remember it's a set up!
P.S I hadn't realised that she refused to answer all of the 40 questions.. what the hell was she doing with the police for 13 odd hours... does it take that long to say and translate the words "no comment, no comment, no comment"?

It wouldn't surprise me if the questions were the same but asked in a accusing way. The police are trained to get to the truth by asking these type of questions and it wouldn't be hard for Kate to refuse, or be unable to answer, due to the implications the answers will cause..
