Sometimes, I come to know chidren falling ill after consuming food in which a lizard has fallen. I hear people saying that such children fell ill for other reasons than the falling of the lizard as this animal does not have any poison. I am baffled.

There are also other venomous lizards, most monitors are venomous as well. But when sold in pet shops, the monitors have their venom sacs removed. But, no, an ordinary house lizard would not cause a child to become sick, unless the child has been picking up the dead lizard and not washing their hands. It's always best to santize the area in where the lizard has fallen. Lizards and all reptiles for that matter carry certain bacteria's, that can cause salmonola.

Actually, two -venomous- lizards, the gila monster and the Mexican beaded lizard, and I'm sure if you were to skin and butcher one or the other as long as you avoided the venom glands, they'd probably be edible.

I've read somewhere that cats can get ill from eating blue-tailed skinks, but that was a long time ago, and I could be wrong, and that's cats, not kids, and that would also require the child to be eating the lizard itself, not just something it's been on.

But there are so many things lizards (and other animals) walk through on a daily basis, and then all the fun bacteria and stuff harbored in their intestines....

No, lizards aren't poisonous, but there's nasty germs all over the place.

No. It has nothing to to with the house lizard and it is not a poisonous animal.

Actually, Gila monsters and Mexican beaded lizards which look very similar are the only TWO venomous lizards in the world. Komodo dragons do have a high amount of bacteria in their mouths and the infections from these bacteria can kill, as can the infections from bacteria in alligator mouths (I know of at least one occasion where someone survived a bite to die from infection) I'm supposing as well, that other large monitor-type lizards have nasty bacteria as well. If you are a cat, you don't want to eat blue-tailed skinks, they can cause paralysis in felines if ingested. Other than that, no.

No. The ONLY poisonous lizard in the world is the Gila Monster, they're here in Arizona and the western US.

Lizards can carry samonilla and other diseases, however. Or the kids getting sick could be a coincidence.

A mouse carries more diseases then a lizard. Mice also have no control over bowel movement.

People who fell ill , were handling the reptiles without washing their hands after wards. Some reptiles do carry salmonella.

Don't blame the lizard, they are not poisonois. Maybe the food the children are eating needs to be more protected, who knows whats getting in there.
