Faith,
I'd rather be disappointed in them for letting their daughter and the public down, rather than being disappointed in me with the way I treated them unjustly.

I'm afraid that I am sitting on the fence. There is too much confusion and not enough concrete evidence for ANYONE to be charged.
Something doesn't quite add up (OBVIOUSLY).
I guess, and wonder, if time will tell..................
I cant imagine that any accusers will feel any guilt at any length. They are just pointing the finger. They will just go on to point the finger at someone else in some other trial...........
The people that feel the most one way or the other are the McCanns themselves. Bless ALL those involved in each and every aspect.

I have an uncanny knack of summing people up. I would love to be proved wrong and end up with egg on my face. So many things don't add up with these two. Washing the cat, the on line blogs, the jogs in the park leaving the children alone, the coldness. The devoted catholics who underwent IVF. The bible that Kate reads every day, but then went against its teachings if she follows it so devoutly. I am not following the crowd only my own instincts and I can't believe they would do something so big and expect to get away with it, but the famous saying is the bigger the picture the bigger the crime and I think we may never know what really happened that day. I feel sorry for a beautiful girl who deserved better from this world.

I am definitely in the former group and I would certainly be shocked if they were proved to have killed Madeleine but I'm already shocked because SOMEONE has committed a dreadful crime. Whether or not Gerry & Kate McCann made Madeleine disappear, someone did and that is really shocking.
To the poster who relies so much on statistics to support their theory - statistics will not determine who made Madeleine disappear. Either her parents did it or someone else did.
Statistics mean that everyone close to a missing person ought to be suspected but only evidence can convict.

I have already experienced this with the Chamberlain case and I allowed my own judgment to be swayed by the media and water cooler gossip.
Then it was proved that she was innocent after spending 5 yrs jail.
When I saw Kate McCann get jeered at the Portugal police station by the public I felt sickened that history seemed to be repeating itself and was glad I was not one of the ones judging her.
I am glad to say now I have learned that the police are not always correct.

Generally speaking, statistics say that children are more likely murdered by their parents. Whether on accident or on purpose. Just recently I heard about a woman here in the US who left her kids in a car with food, water and an electric fan all day long, came back to find them dead from heat exhaustion, stuffed the 4 year old and 1 year old in garbage bags and kept them under her sink.
I'm not saying they did it, I pray that little girl (which I highly doubt) will be found one day, and I pray her parents didn't do it. But... what I'm saying is, you never know. No one but the parents really know the truth, the rest is speculation and evidence.

If I am wrong, I will be very shocked, and upset. It would be terrible to imagine that two people could pull off such a massive deception at the cost of their daughter's life.
But I don't believe they did, and all the evidence so far is circumstantial at best.

Have you ever attended a real trial? There is a lot of evidence withheld from the public. Unless I had all the evidence and testimony, I would not comment either way. Remember the movie about Lindy Chamberlain and her daughter Azaria?? She was convicted on tainted evidence and later acquitted.

I don't accuse them of murder. But if they are guilty, would I feel let-down?
No - I am not responsible for their actions. The blame would be theirs, not mine. Would I feel shame for believing them? No, because I do believe very strongly that you are innocent until proven guilty. As strongly as I believe that speculation and gossip is not productive.
We pay policeman, courts, judges, lawyers to decide their guilt. Why should we take on that responsibility?
Yes, I do have an opinion, as I have in the past. But I accept that my knowledge if limited.
If the parents drugged, killed and ate all their children, I would be horrified, but it would not affect me enough to feel anything other than sorrow for Madeleine and her siblings.

I feel that no matter charged guilty or innocent they will always be in my eyes the most responsible for her dissappearence or murder because they could have prevented it by acting like responsible parents. As many others have said...do they leave their wallet, jewels, credit cards in unlocked apartments out in the open for anyone to take?
