Work is just ordered energy in transition. (Heat is just disordered thermal energy in transition). You push on something, which gives it kinetic or potential energy. Heat, work, energy (and mass for that matter), are all just the same thing really.
work is the path integral of the scalar product of force and displacement.
In one dimension with constant force,
work = force times displacement

Work energy is the ability to perform a task. When this energy is visible i.e. in motion it is called kinetic energy such as a moving motor car or a running athlete.
Potential energy is also a form of work energy, but it is hidden. You can not see it. Such as, a ball being held at some hight. You can not see it work energy but when the ball is released and it hits the ground it can create sound and puddle on the ground surface.

Work and energy are -exactly- the same thing. Whenever work is done, energy changes form (for mechanical things, it's usually from potential to kinetic and/or back, with some loss due to friction that shows up as heat).

Energy is the ability of a body to do work. It is what is possessed by the body.
Whenever a body A does work on body B, energy equivalent to the work done is transferred from body A to body B. Energy of body A reduces and that of body B increases by the amount of the work done.
