Frank Sinatra's daughter has admitted that her father was a member of the Mafia for over 20 years. In particular the Gambino family. They quite probably had a major part in the start of his career. many of the popular clubs in Las Vegas were owned by gangsters, their backing would have been a must to be booked.
In this, Sinatra is not alone, it has also been suggested that Dean Martin and Bing Crosby relied on Mafia backing in their early days!
Incidently, the character of Johnny Fontane in the Godfather was believed to have been based on Sinatra.
Hope this helps.

He was most definitely connected to the Mafia, The Gambino family, they were the ones that got him back into business when he career took a dive, it shouldn't be so surprising when you consider where he was born, and his deeply rooted Italian background. He was used as a mediator between political families like the Kennedy's. A close friend to John F Kennedy and Sam Giancana. I loved his music, but wouldn't have liked to have crossed his path. There is lots of footage, documentaries, friends and family testimonies to his involvement with the Mafia, though it wasn't the done thing to talk about it because it could have brought him down and countless others, including political leaders.

The Gambino family, it's a known fact, and yes, it is true. He was involved with money laundering mainly, but he never got caught up in it like many of them did. Good guy, but a "shady" guy.
