The National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive, signed on May 9, 2007 declares that in the event of a “catastrophic event”, George W. Bush can become what is best described as "a dictator":

I do believe this includes Natural Disasters also
And may I add...If a Avian & Pandemic Influenza would take place, the U.N takes control.

The person that said no this cannot happen in America should go back and take a closer look at BushFraud's family history in regards to US government.
Prescott Bush was intimately involved with the American Nazi movement and attempted a coup by assassinating FDR. General Smedley Bulter testified before Congress.
PDD 51 is an executive order that allows for continuity of government in case of an attack or disaster. It is written in such a way that Congress would not be involved an any governing process.
This is nothing more than attempted coup by the BushFraud gang to finish the work his Nazi grandfather failed to accomplish. Unfortunately you will not hear this on FOX News at six, however Fox News online does have an article about Prescott Bush funding Hitler.

I wouldn't go so far as say that it is highly likely, but I do believe if any administration would do it, it would be this one. I do have some fear of such a possibility. Keep in mind that Nixon researched possible scenarios for canceling the '72 elections. It's definitely not crazy, however it sounds. I'm sure the subject has at least come up inside the administration. A recent article on a neo-con think tank site promoted the idea recently. Here's a piece of it.
Caesar pacified Gaul by mass slaughter; he then used his successful army to crush all political opposition at home and establish himself as permanent ruler of ancient Rome. This brilliant action not only ended the personal threat to Caesar, but ended the civil chaos that was threatening anarchy in ancient Rome – thus marking the start of the ancient Roman Empire that gave peace and prosperity to the known world.
If President Bush copied Julius Caesar by ordering his army to empty Iraq of Arabs and repopulate the country with Americans, he would achieve immediate results: popularity with his military; enrichment of America by converting an Arabian Iraq into an American Iraq (therefore turning it from a liability to an asset); and boost American prestiege while terrifying American enemies.
He could then follow Caesar’s example and use his newfound popularity with the military to wield military power to become the first permanent president of America, and end the civil chaos caused by the continually squabbling Congress and the out-of-control Supreme Court.
President Bush can fail in his duty to himself, his country, and his God, by becoming “ex-president” Bush or he can become “President-for-Life” Bush: the conqueror of Iraq, who brings sense to the Congress and sanity to the Supreme Court. Then who would be able to stop Bush from emulating Augustus Caesar and becoming ruler of the world? For only an America united under one ruler has the power to save humanity from the threat of a new Dark Age wrought by terrorists armed with nuclear weapons.

no...there is no way the president could become a dictator, the founding fathers made sure that the mistakes the romans made would not be repeated. Which is why we have a legislative and judicial branch of government, the judicial branch would destroy the president if he tried to become a dictator because it would be 100% against The Constitution of the United States of America. The 2 term policy for presidents is still there as well, no president can stay for more the 2 terms which is also to prevent a dictatorship.

Nope,
You really think the military would let anyone do that ?
or the FBI or Secret service ?
Even in a period of Martial Law, we would still have elections.
They are constitutionally mandated.
No law that Congress pass's or executive order the President signs, can prevent that from happening.
New Orleans declared martial law after Katrina, Don't you think they had a martial law plan figured out beforehand ?
So why shouldn't the federal government have a plan figured out before hand, just incase it was ever needed?
What if an astroid hit the US, thats not a farfetched thing to happen, we know something hit in Russia about 80 years ago.
Wouldn't it be better to have a national plan already thought out beforehand, than to try and wing it, if something like that actually happened ?

Doesn't sound crazy at all... You are on the right track with this one. Bush or should I say Cheney has fooled sufficient numbers of people to make this action a cakewalk.....
Note the Democratic Congress allowed it to pass as law. We are all cooked.

I am a heluva lot more worried that the Osama Bin Laden's of this world will begin to dictate if we don't start remembering who, and why we are fighting. This country has a system that protects against dictators unless enough of the population continues to listen to the Boxers, Pelosis, Reids and the rest of these jokers that have no common sense.

I'm not worried about Bush. I'm thankful that Bill Clinton and/or 'Bore' Gore were not in office. They would have sold America down the river for a cigar or an ice berg. Wonder what the headlines would have read: "Bush did it!"

Every president in Modern History has signed that into action.
It is designed in case something happens like decimation of parts of the country and only last until order is restored.
It is nothing new and nothing to worry about.
