I just bought a new vacuum in June.
I did my research (as you are doing now) and looked to Consumer Reports for assistance (I have two long-haired cats who shed like crazy.)
CR ranked the Eureka Boss Smartvac better for picking up pet hair than the Dyson Animal. I bought the Eureka. Got it at Sears' for $148 (comes with 3 bags, and the bags are very inexpensive.)
I'm very happy with my purchase. But then, I've had bagless vacuums before and I don't especially like having to empty out the chamber...it seems to me that a lot of dust gets back into the air!

I got a Hoover Savvy as a gift.. It retails for around $150-$200 and Consumer Reports rated it about as good as a Dyson... It has on-board attachments and is a bagless upright.. I have a long-haired dog, 2 small children and a husband so I vacuum everyday ! It's good on hardwood, linoleum as well as carpet. It has a changeable hepa filter $40 and it lasts for roughly 2 yrs..and comes in fun colors... I DID however buy the extended service warranty $99 for an additional 3 yrs.. I do have my vacuum cleaned/checked acouple times a yr. even if I have to make-up a warranty condition so they look at it... If you have pets and use your vacuum A LOT you should get it serviced at least once a yr. to save on wear n tear.... I've had my vacuum for over 4 yrs. Good luck..

My mom has had this problem for a long time! She went through a vacuum every six months because she has two long haired cats. She would vacuum their hair up and then the vacuum would lose it's suction power because it's all clogged up. Eventually she would take it to the vacuum repair guy to fix it, and he'd tell her that she was wasting her money with those cheap vacuum cleaners. After doing this for about 4 years, she broke down and got a Kenmore Progressive with Intelliclean (or something like that!). She said it was pricey, but it's been several months and it still has the same awesome suction power that it had when it was brand new!

I also have a Dyson and would not propose it. various funds for a much less costly piece of plastic. the comb would not get into the carpet, in simple terms skims the exterior. as far as suction is going, I also have a kenmore that does a greater effectual interest and includes the dirt. The Dyson dirt catcher is messy to empty and dirt flies everywhere you empty it. additionally, the Dyson demands consistent upkeep in removing puppy hair linked to the comb and throughout the time of the chambers. Hair and dirt do no longer continually make it to the chamber. in case you have any problems with the Dyson, (mine broke after 6 months of use) you're able to desire to deliver it off and wait 4 - 6 weeks for it is return. My advice to you is purchase a hepa filtered vacuum with or with out bags. you will shop funds and get a greater effectual equipped product.

you only get what you pay for , so if you buy cheap you end up paying out more for vacuum cleaners that do nothing apart from blow dust around , as you have said. Buy a Dyson animal vacuum ,trust me that little bit extra spend on a good vacuum will save you time and money

I bought a Dirt Devil Featherlite 12 amp vacuum at Super Target for $39.95 (full size upright) and it picks up my long-haired cat's fur with no problem-To me it works fine-especially for the price! Good Luck!! Plus it helps to brush your cat/dog once in awhile......

dyson...they have different ones...the "animal" might work best for you...i've had my original one since for years since it came out and never had a problem with it..just make sure you wash the filter regularly. it's a few hundred bucks but worth the money. you can find it an home depot and other stores like that.
