If I were to see this kid on the street, I'd probably think that he was a high school student, not a Number 1 draft pick. How does everyone think this acne faced, 5'10", 163lbs, 18 year old will do in the NHL? Although I've got a few years up on him, I'm that size, and just the thought of playing head to head with some of the NHL's towering 6'6" 250+lbs, defense me, like Chara, Gill, scares the crap out of me. Personally I think although great skill is a valuable asset, size does matter. How do you think he'll do this year, will he play a full season, will he be in the contention for the calder, will he overcome his size deficet and have a great season and career. Or is he just too small, prone to injuries and end up on a minor league team?

To add a bit based upon what people answered, I wouldn't go compairing him to crosby, let alone Greztky, just yet. I know when we think of small players we inmediatly think of Theo, but Theo was only 5'6" and 180lbs, short stocky, and not afraid to get rough, not a 160lb bean pole, You can't can't really compare the two. To the person who camed him to Domie, he was 210lbs, a scrapper, and retired with only 103 goals, so I'll just disregaurd that comparison.
Paul Kariya, thats a fair comparison. Not a big player by anymeans, but as far as I'm consernd, kariya is way over rated. He's put up big numbers a few years, but other than that, he hasn't done much in the past few years. Definatly not a player to build a dynasty around. Is size to blame? Well, that is the question.

Chicago expects him to play. He did great in prospect camp playing with Toews. I was there and can say the kid has some serious skill. The Chicago Tribune said Kane is around 170 lbs. Paul Kariya is around 5'10 176 lbs according to ESPN.

I expect him to play the 10 games. If he plays alright in those 10 games, he will stay. However, Chicago is not going to get the kid killed out there. If he can't hack it, he'll be in the OHL. Size hasn't mattered his whole career. There are ton of guys in the league as small as him. He'll have a fine career in the NHL. I just don't know if it will be this year.

No, he's obviously not too small. He can hit the weights like anyone else and gain weight. Tie Domi is only 5'10", and doesn't get sand kicked in his face. Size obviously doesn't matter much to guys like Crosby or Kariya. Gretzky was playing for the Oilers as a skinny 17 year old. That being said, I think he will stay in London this season. There is plenty of time for him to excel in the NHL.

The average height in the CHL is slightly taller than the NHL
The average weight in the CHL is only 9 lbs lighter than the NHL.
And Kane excelled in the CHL

The size differences will be negligible to Kane. He weighed in at camp over 170lbs so he has bulked up a bit.

Early indications are that Kane is ready to take a regular shift now. Whether he's a Calder Candidate or not depends on if he plays with Martin Havlat or if he plays with Patrick Sharp

So, if he doesn't make the Black Hawks (and there is every indication he will) he'll be back in London.

Note: Crosby is listed at 5'11" (if you believe statistics) and he's listed at 200lbs (this is where those statistics become damn lies). I'm a little leery of buying the 5'11" bit, but if Crosby weighs more than 180lbs, I'd be very surprised.

Lol well My home town team are the London Knights, An OHL team, the team Kane came from. The Knights have had alot of success in the past few years and Pat Kane was a good reason for it, He was leading goal scorer on the team this year along with Gagne who is now an Oiler i belive, Patrick Kane will bring A great name to Rookie Goalscoring Only time will tell, but i have great expectations.

He'll do great. He had a hell of a year last year with the London Knights last year...don't kid yourself, there are a lot of big guys in the OHL. Size matters somewhat..but, there have been many small guys who played in the NHL who had good careers..Theo Fleury comes to mind. The NHL game has changed to more of a speed game. Kane will do well....

i am from buffalo and my grandma actually used to live next to his family. she saw him at a restaurant to say hello and when she came back she told me that i make him look like a dwarf. i mean i have a lot of respect for the guy that grew up just down the street to become a great first round hockey player but how can you be successful in a league with guys that are close to twice your size? he is going to take a beating but i think he will be okay. i wish em the best.

Probably a Yay. But his size will be an issue. I believe that Turris will be the stud out of this draft class however. Time will tell.
