I am not a smoker, first off. I just purchased(from a person not a company), an oversized chair/ottoman set, it is suede or microsuede. I had it in my house for about an hour and now I smell cigarette smoke all over both items, and now my living room is starting to smell also. I have called a professional cleaner about the furniture but have yet to hear back from them. I need to know what I can do to rid my house of that smell, and what I can do to eliminate it on the chair/ottoman. I tried febreeze, a whole large bottle and it did nothing, then I tried odor cide and it took some away, made it fainter but it is still there. I have only had this chair in my house for a few hours and it is driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I dont want to have to get rid of these pieces.

The most effective would be to have it professionally shampooed.

Open doors and windows at a certain time everyday. I would not move the furniture out in case of rain or possible back injury. Instead open windows and doors for fresh air.

When cleaning the house use a lemon scented wood cleaner for floors or to dust, and/or clean and fresh smelling floor cleaner. Sprinkle baking soda if there is carpet and also on the sofas and chairs to be vacuumed after an hour. Clean all windows with windex (it makes the room smell good too) and use febreeze as the final step for all fabric surface. Use a good quality scented candle and light everyday for a week. Wash all your pillow covers, curtains, throws, and dry clean AC ducts. This should keep the smell out and the house clean for weeks to come.

Sprinkle chair with baking soda and let it sit overnight.. Vacuum cushions and smell should be gone.. Also, check and see if the cushions are washable.. You MIGHT be able to turn them inside out and wash them on gentle cycle if the fabric allows.. Microsuede I'm not exactly sure.. good luck

Wipe it down with a rag and vinegar. Then turn it over and spray it well on the underside.Turn a fan on to dry it,then respray if needed.Odor will go away when it dries. Can you set it outdoors to allow the air to go all the way away?I mean so it freshens.I took burnt pan smell out of my kitchen with vinegar,my landlord never knew...
