OK- This christmas were going to my boyfriends parents house and they want to do this:everyone buy a gift up to $75.00
wrap it and don't tell anyone what it is, then we pick a # and whoever goes first gets to pick which gift he/she wants to unwrap. What my question is -WHAT CAN I GET, TO GIVE??
I HAVE NO CLUE, AND I CAN'T ASK MY BOYFRIEND OR HIS SISTER BECAUSE THEY MAY GET MY GIFT AND IT HAS TO BE A SUPRISE TO THEM....... I was thinking maybe a couple of little presents in one. They are rich people too so they probably already have whatever i get them!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!! THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Jenn.

Wow that's a hard one. It's a fab idea though! You'll need to buy something that would suit both a male AND a female, so candles are out of the question as are ceramics. Guys wouldn't like these as much.

I would suggest a "fun" kitchen appliance. Like a popcorn make or an icecream maker or a candy floss maker? These aren't too feminine but are great fun for all the family. If not you could try some sort of electronic? Ipods are popular with both sexes as are MP3 players, Hifi's, radio's, DVD players etc.

Good luck and happy holidays

Our family does this every year. Don't stress out about it, not many people give great gifts even at your $75.00 limit. We have found that a smaller amount of money makes it more interesting and fun. What always goes over big are gift certificates, the other stuff is more difficult because what is a guy going to do with a Body & Bath basket. If they are into sports you could try to get tickets to a game, or tickets to a concert if it is music they are into. You could end up with your own gift, so get something you like as well.

Although it was in a different setting, the most successful "generic gift exchange" I saw was set up in the style of a white elephant. People were asked not to bring "gag gifts," but to bring a gift (men bought for men and women bought for women). There were no names on the gifts, though, just numbers. Then we drew names for order, and everyone either selected something that had already been opened or they selected an interesting wrapped gift from the pile. We didn't know in advance how the selection had been set up. Also, people were asked not to bring gift cards, so there were a lot of really thoughtful gifts. This worked pretty well, but my other experiences with gift exchanges would lead me to avoid them.

What about a bbq pack that you put together yourself. Everyone loves to bbq - you can get a funky apron, some great gourmet sauces, some tools and put them all in a nice basket or gift box - this suits both men and women. You could also add some great dried herbs and condiments. Check out www.marakye.com.au for some great aprons and gifts

I like the suggestion of an ice cream maker or some fun appliance. You could also look for something like a gumball machine--I've seen small ones for $30-$40, and larger ones for way more, but that's something a lot of people don't have. I also love things like novelty lamps (like the lava lamps or glitter lamps) or just other novelty things (like I have an M&M candy dispenser that cost about $25). Go to stores like Kirkland's or Pier 1 where they have some more unusual items, and have fun!

I would suggest staying away from candles because everyone has drawers and cupboards full of candles from Christmases past. Look into something from Royal Dalton or Wedgewood. They make great heirloom quality ceramics that are really beautiful and I think that you could get something for $75 or less. A crystal bowl or cookie jar might also work.

Try this website. It can be for anyones home. This is their wedding page, but you can go from there.

http://www.chimesofyourlife.com/Weddingwindchimes.html

This company sells wind chimes that you can have inscribed with your feelings, blessings, and love. Maybe you dont have to write anything just pick a cool wind sail shape anyone would like.

They have a great selection of sizes, colors, wind sail shapes, and they even give you examples of things to say if you cant think of something.
