I want to take my gf to Napa Valley for our anniversary. I am a college student so I'm on a low budget and my gf doesn't like me spending too much money on stuff like dinner and watever. She gets uncomforatble when I do. So, I need romantic cheap things to do. I was thinking of good affordable wine tasting (wine budget < $15), good affordable lunch or dinner that isn't too fancy but still 'Napa' kind of food(i mean like not something I can find at every other town) (food budget < $50). Please give specific names of the places, preferably close to each other, and typical prices if u know it. Any other ideas are appreciated.

The problem is Napa has gotten to be very expensive. Most places charge a tasting fee that can run $10.00 - $25.00 per person. A trick we use is to buy one tasting and split it. Even so, it adds up quickly. I know Caymus does not charge (call a few days before for an appointment, it is worth doing.), but I do not know about anybody else. Here is a web site that will help you plan you trip when going to northern California wines. It list the times open, and tasting charges…. It also has links to the different wineries. http://www.ewineinfo.com

Something to think about – changing the trip to Dry Creek and Alexander valley in Sonoma. Due to the number of people going to Napa, people working in the winery do not have a chance to talk to you. Wineries run at a slower and friendly speed in Sonoma. Most wineries are smaller and the roads are narrow giving it a lot of charm. A lot of places now charge, but not like Napa. We find the town of Healdsburg is romantic. Lots of choices for food and you will be able to stay in you food budget.

With the prices you listed, $15.00, I am concern that Sonoma may be beyond your wine budget. I have the feeling that San Francisco -Oakland is your home base. Here is another wine country option, Livermore. In the last few years, there has been a lot going on in Livermore to encourage more wineries to open. It gets better every year. A few have a tasting fee, but not much ($3.00 to $5.00). Here is a site http://www.livermorewine.com Livermore lacks the romantic spectacular views of Sonoma, but it is a fun place to go for a day.

Have fun wherever you go. I suggest you bring water and bread with you as it helps neutralize you mouth between wineries.

Stick to downtown Napa. Go to the visitor's center and you can get a wine tasting card for $20 for 20 tastes. There are 17 tasting rooms downtown, and they claim that it's a dime a taste with the card, but they usually waive it. And there's a lot of very affordable restaurants there. Tres Hermanos, Piccolinos, Don Perico, ABC Bakery (they have cheap, hot breakfasts and tons of coffees, teas and pastries). Another cost saving thing is to take the trolley. I think it's still free. Look up VINE on the internet. They're the bus system here, but they also have the open air trolleys. I live here, and it's a cool ride. If you need help on cheap but not-a-dump hotels, I can help you out there too. Just email me.

Sorry, but $15 will not get you much wine to taste in Napa as most all wineries in Napa charge at the least $5. I would suggest either Sonoma / Dry Creek/ Alexander Valley for tasting as not as many wineries charge to taste. You could also try Anderson Valley for wine tasting. It is a beautiful area and there will be no fee to taste.

I ought to disagree to the guy who mentioned to take the Wine practice. We took it, and all you notice is the backs of homes and clutter. easily all you do is eat teeny parts of nutrients and get blitzed in 3 hours and then get dropped off to stumble someplace. My advice? Take a warm air balloon trip! We went on one and that's nonetheless the wonderful adventure we've ever carried out. It became wonderful, floating alongside, wonderful perspectives, it became incredible! And while you're right here, my vineyard advice is Mumms on Silverado path. that's captivating, the sparkling wine is astonishing, and that they have an incredible Ansel Adams sequence. Oh, and circulate to Sterling too. An aerial tram takes you to the right of the hill and you provide your self a self-guided excursion of jap gardens in the previous you get to the tasting room. returned, large wine and captivating perspectives. in case you nonetheless have money, circulate to Cole's Chop homestead in Napa. That became an extremely memorable meal for us. Oh, and end by ability of Oakville Grocery in Oakville. it quite is an attractive upscale grocery and has incredible sandwiches and loads of alternative foodstuffs for picnics. something, permit me understand. we live right here.
