Any time before mid to late November is too early for Christmas lights. (Some people seem to think mid-November is alright. Others don't. Really a personal preference when you'd want to put them up).

And you should probably take down the lights no later than mid-January. After a month or two of Christmas decorations, the lights start to get old and annoying.

Thanksgiving is the kick-off for the Christmas season and many ppl put up the lights after Thanksgiving dinner (or early December). New Year's Day or the weekend after New Year's seems like a logical time to take down Christmas lights and decorations. Taking down the decorations on December 26 seems a little sad to me because the days after Christmas leading up to the New Year are still part of the Holidays. It's an individual choice so you should do what is comfortable for you.

Before Thanksgiving is too early. I put mine up December 1. The reason: I pay so much for my decorations and spend hours of work doing so that a few days up is not worth it. I think your lights should be off be Jan 2 or 3rd. I had mine on for a month and my bill only went up 2 bucks. I ahd alot of lights, too. Just have fun and put them up when you want to and take them off when you are ready!

I typically put the lights up in mid-November, but I don't light them until December. I stop lighting them after the first week of January.

I take them down when the weather permits, so that could be January, as it could be March. Last year I took them down in January because of the lack of winter at the time, other years I've waited until March when some of the snow melted away, giving me access to the decorations once more.

I've seen plenty of houses keep their lights out year round, rather than take them down and put them out year after year.

Before Nov. is to early. I put mine up around Thanksgiving. But I have seen people who don't celebrate Thanksgiving put them up right after Halloween which is not a crazy Idea. Then I take mine down Jan. 2. I start to think people are weird to still have them up in Feb.

The answer will depend on how many lights you are putting out.

Let's say that you are putting out 5K-15K lights. It is acceptable to start after Halloween and to be ready the day after Thanksgiving.

If that is too early for you, then start the day after Thanksgiving and try to have lights on Dec 1st.

Keep them up until the 30th, and start taking them down as fast as you can then.

All lights should be removed no later than the 15th of Jan.

I decorate for Christmas December 31 (some start Black Friday or even sooner) and take them down first week, if not day of New Years.

It's not too early at all. If you want to put them up, do it. Personally I am adding to my collection of lights this month, and then when I have enough I will start to put them up around mid october. I won't actually plug them in though until November

People around here are already putting them up. I usually don't put mine up until November. I don't like to rush the holiday, I guess. I usually take them down in January. Start on the first and it usually takes a little while to finish. Good luck :)
