can anyone in bk,ny or queens ,ny recommend a bank that wont kill me w/ charges since i do not maintain a $2000 to $3000 balance in my checking account? i refuse to continue w/ BOA if this is how they treat long time customers. does anyone else agree? maybe customers need to stop using there atm cards for one day like ppl that dont buy gass on a set day so they can see the drop in oil prices maybe this can be done w/ banks to try & decrease these outragous charges. what do u think??? p.s i chose not to do my banking online, its just my personal choice.

Well now that every one has gotten all upset over Bank of America's new ATM fee, maybe someone should actually READ the news article instead of relying on hearsay.

Bank of America raised the ATM fee from $2 to $3 for NON-CUSTOMERS! If you have an account, you will not be charged. It's only people from other banks using the ATM that will be charged the fee.

I read about that too. I think its a load of crap. This is just a way for them to make more money to pad their pockets, even with losses from mortgage loans etc I don't think BOA is doing poorly. I for one will keep driving instead of stopping at a BOA atm from now on. This tactic has made me FAR less likely to EVER become a BOA customer and I think most other people will develop a dislike for BOA based on this. I hope that their atm revenues go DOWN because of this. Maybe they should have thought the math out a bit more - if an atm used to get 1,000 customers at $2 and now only gets 600 at $3 they will be losing revenue. So we can only hope that people choose different atms rather than BOA's so that other banks don't start to think raising atm rates is a good idea. Also, maybe if people stop using BOA for loans/mortgages/credit cards/checking accoutns etc, maybe they will rethink their customer service policies.

It will be a cold day in hell before I open any kind of BOA account.

I think it's a horrible ripoff. Why do banks charge people for withdrawing their own money from ATMs? The reason I use them is because of their convenience and it means I don't have to stand in a long line at a bank.

Bank of America wouldn't surprise me although banks generally don't charge for using the ATM at their branches. You will be charged for making a withdrawal at another bank. Why not call the bank and get it directly from the source.

I heard that wells fargo charges $1 atm fee just for checking on account balance, not even making any withdrawal.
