They shouldn't. Cell phones are distracting. Students spend time texting and checking messages when they should be paying attention. They also use them to pass along test questions and answers to their friends. I've even known students who used them to plan illegal activities such as drug deals and fights at school.

Students should be able to use their cell phones during school hours to videotape what's being taught in the classroom. If this isn't allowed anytime soon, students will keep asking moronic questions that don't have anything to do with education.

Cell phones should either not be brought to school, left in a central location or turned off.
It is disruptive for a student to text or to receive or make cell calls.
In rare circumstances an individual student should be able to keep her cell phone on with the permission of a delegated school official with feedback from the teacher if he is abusing the privilege.

They SHOULD NOT be able to use them during school hours, especially if sitting in a classroom at the time. It is very distracting--for the teacher and other students trying to learn something--when a phone rings loudly with a ringtone by some rap singer or other type of music like loud guitars. A friend of mine had "Beethoven's 5th Symphony" on hers for awhile, set as loud as she could get it, and it'd practically deafen me whenever it rang. However, if they are outside of the school building--say on a break or something--only then should they be able to use a cell phone.

I was allowed to have my cell phones on in school because my family has a few people in it. that are disabled. and have serious medical problems, so I had to have a way to be contacted in cases of emergency.
some cell phones can take pictures or videos, so students can get the notes in classes. record a lecture, and take pictures of the notes.
I believe its an excellent idea to have cell phones in school. I could keep some kids out of trouble too.

Well, I don't agree with using cell phones in class (talking, texting, etc.) and think they should be turned off, or at least on silent.
Using cellphones during breaks or lunch hours? Go ahead. I don't see the problem with using them on your breaks. You're not learning during lunch. It won't do any harm.
They're handy for after-school meetings/practices/etc. At least around here, pay phones are becoming harder to find, and more expensive to use. The school office isn't open that late. And, if by chance another school shooting occurred, they'd be very useful.
So, I don't believe in banning them completely, but stop using them in class.

they shouldn't be able to. there is no need for cell phones during school hours. they are there to learn and thats it.
but, i do think they should be able to take them to school and either leave them off or in their backpacks. i know some schools ban them period. but i would think if an emergency situation came up like another school shooting, and no one had a cell phone on them, people would start blaming the school for it.

they should not be able to use them in schools, but having them off and hidden is ok. if cell phones were allowed, so many materialistic teens (thank god im not one of em) would be texting all day. thats not learning. unless you want to be a texter for a job, do somethiong usefull! if people spent as much time studing as they do texting,we wouls have a much more intelligent society.

They should not be able to use them in school hours.
Good heavens, we all managed without them before they came along. If there's an emergency, parents and carers should have the phone number of the school.

In case of emergency. To contact parents. Or relatives that don't have acess to the school phone number.
