You should start looking at schools during your junior year. Always check the university's website for application deadlines, this is very important! Community college is a great way to save money during your first two years of college. The big downfall of community colleges is that some of the credits you will earn might not transfer into the university of your choosing. CC typically runs less than $2000 per semester, while major universities can charge upwards of $15000 per semester. As for you chosen career path, that is a judgment call that only you can make. You will have to way the pros and cons of both options and see which is best for you. Good Luck!

You generally begin thinking about what college(s) you may want to apply to in 11th grade. This is around the time when you should begin preparing for the SATs as well. In your senior year, you should apply for college(s). Not to worry, your high school counselors and teachers will be helping you through this process as much as they can (not to mention your parents).
A community college differs from a four-year university in that anyone can be accepted so long as they have a way to pay for it. You just fill out an application and you can go. Community colleges work best for (and are mostly geared towards) people who didn't do so well in high school. This way, they can still get a higher level education even if their grades weren't as high as their peers' in high school. Some people go to community college for a few years and then transfer into universities, while some go to community college to earn their degrees. That being said, there is absolutely no shame in attending a community college. I attended a university for my first year and found it to be too difficult, so I went to my local community college for a year and then transferred back to university once I found that I was ready.
Whatever you decide, best of luck to you. Remember that there are always adults you can speak with on this matter; not to worry.

Take a deep breath and relax. You should start applying to schools at the end of your junior year, begining of your senior year. Universities come in several shapes and sizes.

Junior college is typically a two year instution from which students transfer to a university. Rarely do such schools offer anything higher than an Associates degree (2yr degree).

Community Colleges are community baised schools. Smaller in size, they do not nessasarly offer all the trimings of the larger schools. Most students live locally and commutte. Degrees offered can range from cirtificates to some limited doctorates. Many students either live at home, or lower end apartments.

A four year university is king of the mountain. They offer the widest range of degrees, and classes. The student population is typically the most diverse.

In order to become a social worker, you must complete a four year degree, usually psychology, followed by at least a two year master degree. Deepending upon your location, you can complete this degree in either a community college, or a four year university.

You should start applying no later than 2nd semester junior year if you want to beat the rush, but definitely no later than 1st semester senior year.

Community college allows you to take a lot of general education classes (ones that you will have to take at any university anyways) for a lot less money - typically they dont have housing because they are smaller and close to home. The classes you take there will be transferable to any university so its a smart idea if you want to save some money.
I did this route myself, went to a local jc then transfered after a year or so to USC. Saved a lot of cash and didnt have to deal with a lot of remedial stuff afterwards.

Tough to say on the social work major - your gonna have to do some research online or schedule an appointment with your guidance counselor- let them know ahead of time your question so they can research for you.

Good luck.

you apply to college in your senior year.
Community college is cheaper and are usually only two years worth of education. while a four year is four years and cost more.
if you want to become a social worker, i suggest you go for a state university. Its not worth going to a really expensive school to come out working a job that will pay you like $16-20.

Do a lot of research in your junior year to see what good colleges to put on your list. Go visit some of them during the summer. Then apply to them in the first half of your senior year.
