In fact, I am VERY SUSPICIOUS of 'Yonsama's 'fame' in Japan. It is quite well known to Koreans that he gained 'some' fame in Japan. But when I see the pictures of his fans, why are they all old ladies?(-_-;;) I know that most of young Japanese don't follow him around much and even said that they won't let their mothers become his fans(wwww). And even in Korea, 'Yonsama' hasn't been famous for a long long time. Anyways, what makes 'Yonsama's fans so different from those of BOA for instance?

I wish it was only Yon-sama, but it isn't...Maybe it is because he stars in somehow old-fashioned drama.Maybe because he provides them the dreams they had lost(man, if you just knew what Japanese oyaji look like!!And how they behave!!) ]He is that soft sugar baby they need...

no longer particularly, I delight in the sport. i like the excitement and the contest and that i oftentimes guess on the tip result. I do admit that those tight soccer pants go away little to the mind's eye, yet it is in simple terms the cherry on suitable of observing a good sport.

Thats because ladies in their 40s has preserved their culture of watching long- running tearjerker dramas. And there goes YonSama or Bae Yong Jun with his winning smile that is truly captivating for them. His "Winter sonata" character being a SNAG(Sensitive New Age Guy) was a hit among the lady watchers. They can't help but swoon over him.

His handsome (being tall is also a big plus) looks brought a worldwide appeal not only in Japan but also in HK, Singapore , Hawaii, Phils , Chicago etc.

Youngsters are not into tearjerker dramas but into concerts or singing sensation like BOA. Young ones have short attention span for dramas nowadays due to our fast lifestyle. But if their mother ask them to watch with them, they will be also attracted to Bae Yong Jun. Trust me ;), Ive been there.

Probably because Yonsama represents the kind of guy they would like to have a relationship with. Younger people don't need the kind of vicarious living that tearjerker dramas provide. Older people with lots of responsibilities and maybe no longer so hot romances need the outlet that a guy like Yonsama provides. Such is life.

I am Japanese and have lots of friends and their moms into Korean "stars"!! I guess the reason why most the "Yonsama" fans are ladies in 40s is because he has kinda old-fashioned handsome face..

My friends who are in their early 20s like younger korean singers and actors, such as Shinwa, Wonbin, Seven...etc,,

Ladies in their 40s feel more comfortable with Yonsama than other young ones because he is older.

Its Marketing 101. He tested well in the Japanese entertainment market for TV drama and movies targeted for women aged 38-50. Theabove answer hit the point really well, tear jerking stories.
All my friends less than the age of 40 all wonder the same thing, why is he so popular with the Obachans?
