...shouldn't it be exactly the same for a coach who tries to rig a game? Is this nuts? How is he still employed?

IT's a little different. Part of the coach's job is to make is team win. It's the ref's job to be neutral.

He didn't "RIG" a game.

This has gotten COMPLETELY out of hand.

The comparison to a ref rigging a game is ludicrous. This is more like severe pass interference. It's one of the many ways that EVERY team tries to gain any possible competitive advantage they can. This is no different than the guys up in the team booths with super high power binoculars watching the coaches signals. It's an infraction on the rules. To say cheating.. That's an other level completely.

of course he's employed! Trying to Rig the Game in his team's Favor is The coaches JOB!. The TEAM employs the coach, not the NFL. The REF has the job of trying to make sure the game is fair. that is very different. the ref is not supposed to favor one team. that's expected of coaches...

Video taping might be over the line. but anybody can attend the practices, really what's the difference? If you let people in, you should assume that you're being watched. doh.

If a ref intentionally attempted to throw a game because of a placed wager that ref would be hard pressed to ref a little league football game.

The media loves the Pats. Tom Brady's kid was front page news. Mr. Goodell is in a tough spot on dealing with the cheating Pats. He wants to keep his "you screw up, you're going to pay" mentality however if he puts the Pats under the Guillotine he's going to catch hell from the media. It's a scandal and it hurts the Pats name and reputation.

Water cooler fans are going to support them even though don't watch the games or understand what they did.

Joecon: It's okay to hire people to gain entrance into other teams side lines and film their playbooks? Get real.

No...You're nuts...This is a minor rule violation...and since you're going there, this is not the NBA ref who gambled on games he officiated or a Michael Vick felony...This is an NFL violation and the NFL dealt with it...
