congressional budget office

You will have to read budgets from several years to really get a ideal about it.

you will never know the total budget cause they allocate money from 5-7 years in the future and so each year part of this budget goes to the next few years so it isn't as easy to track how much is being spent

plus parts of the budget are broken down in different areas that while for defense don't fall under defense budget. privet contractors don't always fall under the defense budget but by emergency spending allocation bills. and there are allot of programs that don't show up on the public budget

The federally budgeted (see below) military expenditure of the United States Department of Defense for fiscal year 2007[3] is:

Total Funding $439.3 Billion +6.9%
Operations and maintenance $152.2 Bil. +6.6%
Military Personnel $110.8 Bil. +3.7%
Procurement $84.2 Bil. +10.5%
Research, Development, Testing & Evaluation $73.2 Bil. +3.1%
Military Construction $12.6 Bil. +57.5%
Family Housing $4.1 Bil. +2.5%
Working Capital Funds $2.4 Bil. +9.1%

Further, the Department of Energy will spend an additional $23.4 Billion during FY2007 for the development, maintenance and production of nuclear warheads.[4]

these are low estimates

how does it affect the us econimy its a small portion of the total revanue collected but it combined with interest on the deficet

hell think what you will there are rationalizations on both side that can make it look like nothing or the end of the world depending on how you veiw it , i think we should bring all the troops home from bases quoted by cbo from 800+ to over 1000 bases from other sorces, from over 150 + countries in the world.

give the money wasted back to the citizens and troops will be in this country to protect this country, rebuild our bridges not iraqi bridges

ron paul 08 the only wasted vote is for the status quo

I'd say the national debt and the interest on that debt is far more disturbing. That being said, the defense budget is largely because of deficit spending.
