I work odd hours so I cannot be around for all the attention a dog would need plus I live in an apartment.

I'm allergic to cats and have asthma. I grew up around cats and was fine but when I left home, I developed the allergy. When I go home, I'm stuffed up for a few days but then I'm fine. But I don't want to risk bringing a kitty home and not being able to keep it if I get sick.

Rodents and reptiles gross me out. What else is there to choose from?

Rabbits make great pets, they have fun personalities and they like to interact with people

Im also allergic to cats and have asthma but i got a short haired black male kitten a year ago and have been fine. People I've talked to about it have said that most people are allergic more to females because they tend to shed 3 times as much as males and when I asked my physician about it he said male shorthaired cats carry less dander which is the stimulant of most peoples asthma. I hope I helped I cant picture my life without my kitty.

You could get a bird or a rabbit. There are non-allergenic cats usually hairless ones. Also you could get a ferret. It's kind of like a rodent but I promise a cute little ferret will not gross you out. They are so much fun.
I guess fish are also an option but that isn't really a fun pet. Maybe a tarantula, you didn't say spiders gross you out.

If you're allergic to cats then you might well be allergic to rabbits too, try being near one and holding one at a pet shop before buying one. Rabbits are awesome pets and can be trained to use a litter tray and become house rabbits.

Other than that you have the option of ferrets/polecats, chinchilla's (may upset your allergies and you need to get two as they like company), or birds.

You didn't mention how "odd" your hours are. Anyways, the best pet for me is still a dog. If you can't give a dog the attention it requires, I can't think of a better pet. Fish is don't really consider a pet (can;t pet it now, can you?) So, before you embark on getting a pet, make a commitment. Whatever pet you decide to keep, it will require your attention, odd hours or not.

If you are gone a lot but still really enjoy dogs, consider getting two. If they have each other to play with and keep each other company, they won't miss you as much during the day. Also, many apartments allow dogs they just require a fee or something along those lines.

You could always consider something like a rabbit or hampster, but they aren't as much company as a dog

Hairless cat would be good-- cuteness of a cat, strange appearance, and hypoallergenic.

Have you considered a bird, or a pair of birds? That might be a good idea.

Ferrets aren't polecats (which are a relative but also a wild animal) They need a lot of time out of the cage and love to be around their people. They live about ten years and act like kittens their entire life. As long as they have plenty of time out of the cage, they make great pets. Oh, and they adapt to your schedule!

I would say a nice little bird/parrot if you want something you can talk to and hold. Just watch out for "high maintenance" ones, like cockatoo's...they need alot of attention, almost constantly someone home. Also, watch out for certain conure familys...there's many types, like Sun , Jenday, & Patagonian's, to name a few are NOISY, in general. Green Cheek family are quiet. I've had a little Meyer's parrot for about 8 yrs. who's the greatest...quiet, affectionate. If you go the bird route, just do your research.

you can get a poodle or a yorkie. they are so nice you can also go to a aspca place and get one all fixed and older pet would be great for you. this way you wouldn't have to house train it and if its older then it would be fine at home with you in apartment. they dn't shed. actually the being allergic is the flakes that fall and i don't know why but these two animals are mostly pretty free of this. now you can get toy cause that is anywhere from around 5 or 6 lbs sometimes 10 but you can see they will tellyou at shelter or buy from a good breeder. its depends on how much you want to spend we got a yorkier for my retirement and we love him. hes great but got him 7 weeks old and hes now grown to us but the older pets are great to and need a chance and you can get purebred they will helpyou at the shelter or where ever you wan to go. take care.

Birds?

Parakeets and Cockatiels can deal with "alone" time better than the larger parrots and cockatoos, while still being trainable and cuddly.

Fish are pretty. Oscars, goldfish, bettas all become "tame" and will learn tricks and be (sort of) affectionate. My friend's Oscars LOVE being stroked too. Really, like cats! They don't NEED any "face time", they will be just as happy without you.
Do lots of research, they all need very specialized care.

A ferret might be what your looking for. They are sort of like cats, but don't contain the same "allergens". Please find someone who has one and hang out with it first, just to see if you react.

See a doctor.
There are treatments available now that might help you.

Cheers.

Fish dont poop on the floor and they dont make any niose. they also can go 10 days without food before it does them any irriversible damage. No fur= no sneezing or vacuming. They wont give you the puppy eyes guilt trip if you come home smelling like that OTHER dog! The types are endless and there are so many personality types. Good luck!
