I heard a simple yet very original blend the other day.
The lyrics to the song "Amazing Grace" is phrased almost exactly as the lyrics to "House of the Rising Sun." Start out with "House of the Rising Sun" and then, keeping the same tune and chords, go into "Amazing Grace." The movement from sinner to redemption is a refreshing interpretation, almost striking, and it doesn't necessarily have to be in a religious setting.
