I applied at another place, and they called me to come in to discuss wage. Now I'm not sure I want to quit my old job. If I call and say I decided to stay at my old job, is there a chance they would ever consider my application again?

yes, especially if you interviewed well - which i'm assuming you did or you wouldn't be discussing wage. they'll respect the loyalty.

In the book of the Samuri it says that you should make any decision in the space of 7 breaths. That is, once you have all the informaiton (including the wage offer) then sit down, take 7 breaths and decide.

You don't have to quit your job. It is up to you. Some people get stuck though between a job they hate and the fear of changing. You applied for a job because you wanted to leave your current job, but it doesn't mean the new job will be better.

If you want this job, have the courage to take it. It could turn out to be the worst decision in your life, with a crazy manager and bad colleagues. Or things could be fantastic.

Don't worry about not accepting the job, simply tell them that you have a better offer. Next time they are looking for someone and you apply, you may get the job (unless they are psychos, then it doesn't matter)

If you really don't wanna stay away from your current job, it's fine. You can phone and explain to the new company with your strong reasons to finish your current project. The reasons that prove you are a good and loyal worker, so you are not going to hit the ball with the current company, and the new company will see you a good and loyal worker to consider again in the future. Later on, if you still want to have interview with them, they will consider you if they need more people to fill up in positions. Even now, if the new company doesnt need people, they wouldnt call you for any interviews.

Good luck with your choice.

Try stalling before you outright decide. Stall by going through the salary negotiations and ask that they give you time to consider their offer. They will usually allow at least a few days to a week (or more). During that time, really think about what you want to do and which job is better for your future.

Yes. Playing hardball to get a higher wage is not an uncommon tactic. It does take nerve to pull it off. If they want/need you though, they will give you closer to what you asked for salary wise.

Make sure you give at least 2 weeks notice before you just up and quit. That way they can re-hire you if need be.
