Okay....Rebel Flag....The wannabe rednecks of my state (NC) are completely insane...Not only do they not even understand what it meant when it was used, THEY DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND WHY THEY ARE FLYING IT!
Rebel Flags are completely useless. Im a southern person, so dont get me wrong, I have southern pride. Just not the kind that makes me think I need to go around with a Rebel Flag shirt on that says "The south will rise again" and make my car horn honk "Dixie". The Rebel Flag should be banned from ALL PERSONAL use, unless it is flown in a yard like a county flag or soemthign like that. The idea that a company or anything reputable would have it waving is completely the opposite of what it means. The Rebel Flag stands for rebellion, which is today considered unpatriotic. Back when it was used it was a sign FOR PATRIOTISM OF A SEPARATE NATION AND ANTI-OPPRESSION. Since we are not a communist nation and never will be, there is no real need for a Rebel Flag to even exist. Sure, its a part of 1/3 of the nations history, but people make WAY too big of a deal about it. Blacks get offended (for no real reason), Mexicans get offended (for no real reason), and me (a mix race) I just think its shameful to disrespect the honor and memory of the flag by putting it on every bumper sticker and painting on cars and what not....its just ridiculous.
Do you guys that support even know WHY the Civil War was fought? It was because the south was being a bunch of punks and wanted to create its own laws and govern itself. If you guys want to have another go at it...try it...it will NEVER happen again. The first time it happened the South basically beat itself because all the had were military people. Nobody could read, and they sure as heck couldnt get a decent monetary system up and running that could ever compete with the dollar. Give it up...it happened a long time ago. And by saying this, you are acting just like the Muslims are about the Crusades...get over it.
IDAHOMIKE3: dang straight.

The 13 stars on the flag represent the 13 states that succeeded from the union.
It was originally 2 stars in a circle for the first 7 states that succeeded.
I agree about tying to erase history.
I think that is wrong!
You cant change it, you cant erase it..
You can learn from it.
But trying to act like it never happened is just ridiculous...

It goes both ways, I'm from VA I have seen that flag as both heritage and hate. Personally it doesn't bother me I actually have a belt buckle with the flag on it. there were black people that fought for the Confederate army and there were black slave and land owners in the south.
We all know the truth that the civil war was not fought to free the slaves it would have been unpopular kinda like the war in Iraq now. also the flag was designed by a black person and the first one that flew over the capitol in Alabama before moving to Richmond Va was sewn by a black person.
a flag is a flag, a t-shirt is a t-shirt its the person and his beliefs that is flying or wearing it that I pay attention to

i am form the south and the rebel flag is part of my heritage. it is also part of history. why are people offended i don't know... but if they are they need a history lesson or they can just not look at it. the civil war is over and it didn't turn out the way the south wanted it to. the united states flag now is just a edited version of the north's flag... does that mean we look at it different??? no. why look down on the rebel flag. it is heritage not hate

If I had been alive in 1861 I would have worn Blue.... but the courage of the brave men who fought for what they believed in, and so many died for makes the Stars and Bars a mark of courage that should be recognized by all men... it is a disgrace to the memory of those brave men that a bunch of degenerate peckerhedded drunken cowardly scum sucking slime bags have, over the years, turned a symbol of bravery into a mockery.... but then... the same mentality has also turned against The Stars and Stripes.... it disgusts me to see either degraded they way they are.... The Confederate Flag(The Bonny Blue) should not be flown... but The Stars and Bars should be flying over every confederate solder's or sailor's grave on Memorial day...

That is a real mixed bag. I think some people fly it because they truly feel southern for whatever reason. To some people it is a serious insult--given by the displayer and taken by some non-Caucasian members of our society. We as a country now have one flag. The Civil War is over. I highly doubt that the south will rise again!!!!

history is offensive. The rebel flag should be flown by whom ever wants to. People who associate it with slavery are themselves racists and do not know the meaning and symbolism of the flag. I say get over or the other flags that flie in our country are in for defamation.

Most black people do. Most black people will also tell you the "fact" that the Civil War was to end slavery as well. It was in fact because of the cessation of states. Mr. Lincoln was NOT against slavery at the time of his election. He only used the Emancipation Proclamation as a weapon.
Having said that, since the flag obviously DOES offend many people who are citizens of the US, polite society shuns it, as it should in my opinion.
Also, it is the flag of a foreign nation which was defeated by the government of the US during the mid-1800s. It is no different than waving a Nazi flag and should be treated with the same dishonor.

By "rebel" flag, I assume you mean Confederate. Realistically, the American flag itself is a rebel flag to England.
But anywho, the flag itself does not offend me, nor do the people who wear or display the flag. They had the right to express their freedom and ideas, and simply creating a flag that expresses those ideas is not illegal. I see the flag as simply a reminder of a low (yet important) point in American History.
People who display that flag mean nothing to me, I would not even waste my time and effort offering emotion toward them. They lose all of my respect. It is ignorant to willingly display that flag, because I believe that people who wave the Confederate flag around are proud for what it stands for. And what does it stand for? Slavery, white supremacy, and - in some instances - Nazism.
The Nazi flag does not simply reflect German History, it reflects an idea, such as the Confederate flag does. Do you think there are Germans who proudly wave the Nazi flag around? Do you agree with them?
I know that I display my American Flag proudly because of what it stands for - Unity, Freedom, and Liberty.

I was raised in the north to believe that the rebel flag was racist. But then I moved to Virginia.. I learned that this flag isn't about hate, but rather American pride and standing firm with beliefs.
