I am the same way as you!
I only use coverup for pimples and whatnot. And some lipbalm so i don't have dry lips.
I always wonder the same thing. Likeee why?
and why is "make up everything?"
To me it's like wearing a mask! lol.

I choose to wear make up because of the following reasons:
1. The foundation I use evens out my skin tone, contains salacyic acid to keep me from breaking out and also contains a SPF to protect my skin from the sun
2. I use mascara because I am a natural pale blonde and have virtually NO eyelashes without mascara, so I would like to have some!!
3. I use a little bit of grey eyeliner pencil just to accent my eyes because I think it looks nice but I don't always use it.
4. I use some pink blush because as I stated earlier I am a very pale blonde and my skin is VERY WHITE so I use a little blush to add a little colour to my skin.
I am by no means a "super model" and I don't think I am fooling anyone, including myself into thinking I am by wearing makeup. I don't usually wear any at home on the weekends; I usually only wear it to work or when I go out because I feel "finished" when I am wearing makeup.
I just think it's a personal preference but I also believe you can go overboard and I've seen an awful lot of women wearing WAY TOO MUCH makeup and thinking they look nice, when they look like Halloween. But again, that's not reason to be hateful.....it's just a personal preference, not a deception.

That's great for you then, but I enjoy putting make-up on. I have fun with it. I put it on when I'm home alone. I don't think you should tell me I'm being oppressed when you know nothing about me. It's my decision. I can chose to wear make up or I can chose not to. No one tells me what to do, including you or anyother women who deems me oppressed. I'll let you know if I feel oppressed okay?
....Hmm...on second thought....The only thing I may consider "oppressing" is the necessity of shaving. When a man goes without shaving he looks rugged. Women look gross with hairy underarms and legs. It's not fair. I would like to have the option to shave or not to shave. I have that option with everything else, but It's completely taboo to leave the house without freshly shaved legs and underarms. Now that bugs. Whose the first to change that I ask?

Interesting point... I can not answer for other people and their reasons for taking care or not of their own faces, but I personally enjoy it. I enjoy being a woman. It is a great gift to me. I don't believe it has anything at all to do with men, because it makes ME happy. I can see your point though... Wearing makeup seems to you as wearing a mask to the world... To some people it could be a war mask, something they hide behind. Well, it takes a courage to be yourself... Not all of us as courageous as you are. However, we still have a right to choose to be anything we like... Don't you agree?

Hey sweetie pie what you're really suggesting is that you are beautiful and you don't need make-up to make you look beautiful..right ? If that's what you're up to that's fine..but other women don't see the way you do. Just keep it to yourself and don't get into a cat fight over such issue ( As for me I'm just waiting for that cat fight to happen...hahahahhaaaa )

I don't try to make myself look like a supermodel. I make myself look my best, which means blush, lip gloss, concealer, and nothing more. There's no one I want to impress. I don't like the way I look without light makeup.

Not all women think they *have* to wear makeup. Some women *want* to wear makeup. I wear makeup because it enhances my features. It draws attention to my eyes, for example.
I am not trying to deceive anyone into thinking I'm a supermodel, nor could I. I'm not supermodel material. I'm also not wearing makeup simply for men's sake...
Now, I have no problem with you not wearing makeup. Do what you want. Let me do what I want.
Oppressed? No. Oppressed is Republicans wanting to outlaw abortion in every case. Oppressed is still learning less than men for the exact same work. Oppressed is being told not to wear makeup because I'm being 'oppressed' by wearing it. Oppressed is many other things; having the *option* to wear makeup is not oppression.

usually it is called vanity
the young girls use it to make them look older
the older ones use it to try and look young
and the really old ones try to look forty
then they all complain about the food in the grocery store and want congress to pass "truth in packaging" laws

Because, as a rule, women are judged by their looks and feminine appeal, while men are judged on what they say and what they do. Not my rule, it just is.
