"Royal Mail Ship"
The actual name RMS Titanic means Royal Mail Ship and Titanic came from the Greek god, Titan (RMS).

Hi! The others have already answered for the acronym, so I'll supply you with a wonderful link for all things Titanic, with a lot of leads for family research ... This is the best webpage I've found for any kind of info on the ship herself, as well as the passengers and crew.

I hope you find what or who you're looking for.

(I'm still researching.)

The Titanic was certified by the British government to carry mail, hence Royal Mail Steamer.

A ship titled with HMS is His/Her Majesty's Ship.

Heidi, I see where Ship and Steamer are both right.
