Anyone else believe we went to Iraq for the right reasons but we went without a plan, or at least one that covered after we caught Saddam Hussein, and therefore screwed ourselves over?

It seems like it was going well, then we caught Saddam, handed him over, then every one just kind of went blank like 'ah... what do we do now?'.

Well, to take one minute before I answer your question to admonish the literal morons that think they know anything about war, national security and the like topics. We went to secure our country. If that alone isn't a good enough reason then those people need to re-evaluate why they live in America. Seems its ok to live under the blanket of freedom that they are given along with opportunities without actually doing anything for it except pay taxes, yet they express their right to speak in this grand ole country of ours and sometimes against it when many others...including the "enlightened" European countries do not have the same right. Case in point, Germany doesn't allow people to openly speak of WW2.
As for the Government, lets face it, it is composed of the same failing entities that most other groups are made of....People.
People make mistakes, and they have made many, but they try to correct and learn from the past. Adaptability is about all you can expect of the best people. The plan didn't work as intended, so they tried something else, they tried to change things a little here and there, some might argue that they ignored the lessons of the past where to have a successful liberation, you have to get the people not only behind you...but in support of you. But it makes me sick to hear the libs / Democrat leadership not stand for good ole American values and play their politics against our own Government.
Irregardless of what the liberally tainted media has been telling America, the Surge seems to be working. Of all the "wars" we have been in, you will notice we still have people stationed in those countries to this day. Vietnam maybe the exception. So why would any rational person think that we "have to get out of Iraq" ?
Our aim is to basically establish a free nation whom is not radical, does not support Terrorism, and would hopefully be an ally and friend in the future. Any of you libs that doubt that can perhaps explain what happened in the Gaza strip ? Israel moved out, the terrorists moved in and got elected to the leadership positions. Then the newly changed little country started warring with themselves. Terrorism isn't just going to go away, we've been poking at, and warring against muslim extremism since the 1800's.....perhaps you know them as the pirates of the barbary coast. And look at the supposed peaceful muslims in England and Swizerland. They are "demanding" changes to accommodate them. I weight things on the balance of fairness, and what people say and do, simple as that. A cut and dry search for the truth in all things. There is much info out there proving the threat, proving that we can't trust libs with America's freedom (in general) not meaning to alienate the few percentage that actually can think. I listen to all points, but I accept nothing form someone that can't prove it or show an example in the world. Right now i'm seeing the same Demo's that confirmed and complimented a good General for his dedication to America turn tail and rip him apart or suggest he is lying. When people betray their patriotism and values, they should be deported.

We had a plan. But there is no plan that can account for people who have no care for their lives. They were killing their own people before we ever went in there. Then Saddam branched out with 5000 tanks and Jet fighters and all the necessary offensive weapons to take over the Middle East. How would that have worked? And once the Middle East was under his control, which continent would he take next?
Excuse me, for those that say we are addicted to oil, I answer, we are addicted to food also? Without oil the Western world does not exist. Are the liberal Dems STOOPID? Where are they planning to live without oil? The Middle East oil is NOT a throwaway option. Just exactly what is the PLAN that the Dems have for the USA without oil?

Didn't get BinLaden. 9/11 happened on his Watch. Undermined the constitution through use of signing statements. Didn't veto a single spending bill Except for stem cell research. Broke the FISA law. Created more government bureauracy with Department of Homeland security. Squandered the the budget surplus. Miserable response to Hurricane Katrina. Let oil companies slide on royality payments.

well... we went mainly over WMD... which turned out to be false...

with a small side of "and Saddams really bad"...

NOW... if Bush had just said "Saddam's really bad, so let's do this"... I think that would have helped the support for the war some...

but then if it was completely mismanaged... it would have been bad regaurdless... but there would be less "Bush lied" comments...

I believe we went to Iraq for the wrong reasons, mainly oil. I believe we had a plan, and it unfolded similarly to what was to be expected. I believe a good deed could be done with bad intentions, however.

Saddam killed at least 600,000 of his own people. Even the "human shields" (some of them, anyway), came running back when they saw people being thrown into plastic shredders. The big mistake was allowing Saddam's military to blend into the civilian population, guns and all. I saw it happening and knew it was trouble waiting to unfold. They should have been cornered and allowed to surrender if anything.

We went for the right reason, but I think that a lot of the information that we were giving was bunk. I think that there are two many cooks in the kitchen and no one has any recipe

well, if you stand to gain a profit from the war, it's been for the right reasons, and it's been a raging success on that front.

the main reason the powers that set the war in motion was to destabilize the region so that no one wants to live there, so investors in the war can swoop in and claim the mother lode of oil. i would say for the very few that benefit, it's going very, very well.
