Congress isn't willing to cut off the funds, because Bush is holding the troops hostage. He's already held up body armor, humvee armor and mine resistant trucks by giving the contracts to companies that weren't already making them.
Most people in the know believe that instead of bringing the troops home in the event of funding cuts, he'd simply stop resupplying them and blame the Dems.
Things are pretty bad now. But they'd be worse if Bush started taking political reversals out on the troops.

I never said I love the troops. Whether I love the troops or not is NOT the issue.
The issue is money. It's not my fault that my president lied about the reasons to invade Iraq, then used a half-baked plan to occupy the country. It's not my fault that Americans are getting killed over there. It's not my fault that some kid was gung-ho to sign up for the Army on the day after 9-11 and now he's maimed. Hey, if you are easily led, then bad things are gonna happen.
And let's not make this war about 'freedom'. Invading Iraq affects my freedom about as much as invading Grenada did. This is political agenda, not a fight for liberty.
If you signed up in the military, you knew the chances of going to war. The vast majority of men that sign up don't list 'patriotism' as the reason. They list things like 'GI Bill', want to travel, like guns, want to drive a tank...etc, etc, etc....
A true patriot calls his government out when they lie. George W. Bush...YOU ARE A LIAR! (and the troops are just his toy.)

I do not want to cut funding for the troops. I want them to be successful. Their job is stressful. Perhaps the most stressful job there is. They volunteer to do it. They do it very well and they deserve our support.
Some get killed, some get hurt. They know that. It is a dangerous, difficult job. That is why they are such beautiful people.
Nothing we do will prevent the deaths of more and more innocent people in more and more countries at the hands of these Militant Islamist Terrorists unless we kill them or take away their ability to wage war. That is what our soldiers are for. That is what they do. They oppose evil. We either oppose evil or we enable evil.
So your choice is not really to make soldiers safe or not. The choice is to oppose evil or be consumed by it. That is your only choice.

You ignorance is a little to glaring, had to grab shades...that's better...
Ok genius, here we go. What you are about to read is called common sense. Your giberish is called complete stupidity.
By your standards we should have abaondoned the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, WW1, WW2... well why bother.
What you are saying is war is never acceptable to you because people will die and be "maimed perpetually. have combat syndrome, and high divorce rates for another 5 years ..or more"
This is stupid. So you think we should not even defend ourselves if an enemy shows up in Times Square and starts blowing people away?
You are the idiot.

Another coward blows his horn. War is hell and I promise you this when we are fighting over here [and we will be if folks like you have their way] you will have your weak little a-ss so close to one of our troops crying save me.
It is a sad trade off our troops dieing by the thousands over there yet when it come to us it will be 100's of thousands the first day of battle of our own people.
You had best learn who we are fighting. I have been there ,I have studied the language the people the culture and the religion. These fanatics are some scary S O B's

well... I think most want to
A. try to stabilize it some
B. let the Iraqi government know it's "sink or swim time" which would hopefully light a fire under them to do something... which hasn't happened so far...
so it's not all totally a waste... but still be able to leave.. soon...
but Bush probably won't let that happen... which is a tough situation

The funds buy the troops the ammunition and armor and equipment they need to protect themselves from harm. Thank God there are brave soldiers willing to risk themselves to protect us. No one wants the troops killed but without the equipment they die a lot quicker. Well at least no one sane unlike you.

Wow.
You know they recently found that there is brain chemistry involved with politics. It's like being gay. You have no choice. So I weep for the future.

true...and for your additional information...today i was at the local VA hospital. one of the buildings now has the entire half of its second floor devoted solely for mental health clinics.(this area was recently for general medical). a lot of our people are coming back with damage that is not visible to the eye.
