Defensive players in baseball have a number assigned to them as follows:
1-pitcher
2-catcher
3-1st baseman
4-2nd baseman
5-3rd baseman
6-shortstop
7-leftfield
8-centerfield
9-rightfield

When scoring a play you write down the numbers of the fielders in the order they touched the ball. So a 6-4-3 double play means the ball went to the shortstop first, he threw to the secondbaseman, the secondbaseman then threw on to the fristbaseman to complete the double play.

All the positions in baseball have a number. Pitcher-1, Catcher-2, 1st Base-3, 2nd Base-4, 3rd Base-5, Shortstop-6, Left Field-7, Center Field-8, Right Field-9. When a groundball is hit to the third baseman and he throws the batter out at first, it is scored 5-3. On a double play, if it's hit to the shortstop and he throws to the 2nd baseman, who then throws it to 1st, it is scoored 6-4-3. Not all double plays involve 3 players. If there are guys on 1st and 2nd base, and a grounder is hit to the 3rd baseman, he can step on 3rd and then throw to 1st. This would be scored 5-3. I hope this helps you understand the game a little better.

On scorecards, numbers are used for each position as a form of shorthand -- for example, 1 is the pitcher, 2 the catcher, 3 the first baseman, and so on. So a 6-4-3 double play is a double play in which the shortstop (6) fields the ball and throws it to the second baseman (4), who throws it on to the first baseman (3).

pitcher is 1
catcher is 2
first is 3
second is 4
third is 5
short is 6
and the outfield from left to right is 7 8 and 9

and when a team turns a 6 4 3 double play..that means the ball wen to the shortstop...then the second basemen and then the first basemen to complete the double play...and the the 4 6 3 is jus the second baseman to the short stop and bak to first...

the numbers represent the positions of positions on the field.
1-Pitcher
2-Catcher
3-1st baseman
4-2nd baseman
5-3rd baseman
6-Shortstop
7-Left Fielder
8-Center Fielder
9-Right Fielder

For example, when they say it is a 6-4-3 double play, it means that there is a ground ball to the shortstop. The shortstop shrows to the second baseman to get the putout at second base, and the second baseman throws to first to get the putout at first base.
