I recently got a new computer and my new logitech x540 speakers will not work. I tried an older set of speakers as well but those did not work either. All sound was looked at and nothing is muted etc. What could be the problem?? If it is that i need a driver, where could i find it?

Re you plugging it into the correct port? It is usually the green one.

You have them in the green port at the back of your PC yes?
If so you may require drivers. try to see if windows detects it in add new hardware, if so then run the wizard to see if there are drivers available that way. If not go to device manager and look up the make of your soundcard, then copy paste it into google with the word driver also in the search bar. Then hunt for the drivers you need.

It sounds like your sound card is not set up properly. you need to see if the sound is working within windows,, or if you plugged in the speakers while they where switched on, then you could have blown the sound chip on the motherboard...
Speakers are live when plugged into the mains, they should never be plugged into the computer while connected to the mains,,, you should always connect speakers to the computer unplugged from the mains. also make sure they are in the right connection hole they should be color coded normally green pin to green hole

start - control panel - system - hardware - device manager -
look for any ! or x marks
delete them and reboot your computer
you did not say computer model # so i can not give you a link to your sound card driver but windows might have it
