I love classical music and I'm 15. I think many people who listen to music aren't actually musicians and don't understand the structure of the music or try to understand what the composer is trying to say through their music. I think they find it boring because they don't understand it and because sometimes it has no singing or a 'hot' lead singer to associate the music with and generally has no 'catchy' chorus, verse etc

This is a very interesting question. I am rather young and I am only allowed to listen to classical music. But it has emotion, and even good beats. Maybe it isn't thought upon as cool. Because these people are actually talented, compared to rappers.

maybe some people lack the proper introduction to classical music...for instance, i've been playing violin for 7 years and feel that i appreciate classical much more b/c i know what's going on. Perhaps it's unappealing to some b/c they can't digest what's happening and of course it's not what's 'in' with the youth

Because you hear classical music only on few occasions and in few places, unlike pop which are being played everywhere you go at all times.

upbringing, i always had classical music on in the house, a lot of my daughters friends where surprised that what they heard was classical, with no education out there about different styles and the different composers are all dumpt into the same "box". want to educate our friends? check out/research how much you find of the old boring stuff in modern version. lots of remix out there, in unusual places. have fun lookin.

The public appetite for mediocroty is unexplainable, except to say that people are not willing to do the thinking inolved in listening to fine art music. Subtlety is beyond these unfortunate people. To understand the rhythm they have to have the beat hammered into their psyche. It must have lyrics or they can't relate to it on any intellectual level. It has to be loud because they can't grasp the concept of dynamic contrasts having meaning.
And then they say that it sucks because they haven't the capacity or the willingness to understand it. And then they call us snobs for appreciating it.
Their loss.

The same reason not many people are into philosophy, science, math, etc. Truth be told, most people do not possess the faculties necessary to appreciate these things. I know this may seem arrogant, but it is a reality. Consider yourself lucky, that you were born with the ability to appreciate the finer tings...
Sorry in advance to any who might be offended. The purpose was not to offend, rather, it was merely a statement of fact.

A lot of popular music (hip hop, rap, R&B, rock) provide more immediate gratification of baser senses, one method by way of lyrics, being explicitly provocative and sexual.
Classical music must suspend on hang up more of those baser inclinations!!!

Because people have lost all respect for REAL good music. Music that takes actual intellegence. This is why band programs in schools are begging for more students. It's sad.
