I think it will be difficult for you to get into an elite private university with your GPA. If you want a good school -- your chances are going to be limited to good state universities, decent liberal arts colleges or good private colleges that aren't great colleges. Academically -- going to a great public school may be your best change.

University of Kansas is a very good public university. But University of Texas in Austin is a great public university. There are a few that are better (e.g., Berkeley, UNC, UCLA, Georgia Tech. Michigan, Wisconsin, Virginia) -- but not many.

Unless you can get into one of the schools I mention -- I don't think you will do much better than UT. That is not meant as a put-down to you -- but as a testament to how good UT is.

Besides -- Austin is a great place.

Congratulations! I went to the University of California, Davis (Class of 2003). Significant reminiscences had been commencing my eyes to connections among the more than a few disciplines I was once learning. As you growth via your typical schooling necessities (i.e., decrease department guides external your fundamental field of research), you'll be able to on the whole realize a few commonalities, equivalent veins of idea, and one steady that I'll not ever disregard: the whole lot you research involves a research of historical past, be it regularly or the targeted historical past of the field to hand. The extra you'll recognize how your fundamental suits into the higher photo of human historical past, the extra pleasant and enriching your tuition enjoy shall be. Have a quality time, and first-class of success to you!
