I'm looking for something sound. Nothing risky. It's not a lot of money, really.

If you are not looking for anything risky, a high yeild savings account is your best bet. ING and E*Trade both offer checking accounts that return nearly 5% per year. This way, your money is making more money, but you still have quick access to the cash if you need it.

A house, if you don't have one. A rental property, if you are already a homeowner. Rental properties provide income and equity.

If you prefer something that doesn't require upkeep, then put it in a mutual fund.

Edward Jones, Merrill Lynch,...any of the broker companies like that...its safe, insured and FICA approved.

Cash is king right now. Find a "high" savings account and park it there.
