breast pain has many causes. breast pain itself does not mean cancer. it can be due to infection, trauma, menstrual cycle itself, menopause, cystic disease, etc. It also depends on where it is, how often it arises, how long you've had it, and many other factors.
if you are worried about cancer, you need to go to a doctor who will need to examine your breasts for lumps and you will likely need a screening mammogram if you already have not gotten one (which you should since you are already 41). Your other medical as well as gynecologic history are also important and your doctor will need to know these as well.
I would get it checked out to be sure

Like you I am a 41 year old female, but I have no family history of breast cancer, however one of my best friends is a breast cancer surviver and I can tell you that my friend discovered her cancer by taking a shower and feeling a lump in her armpit, she had no pain what so ever. Now I once in a while get kinda like a sharp, not painful, fast pain in my chest or breast area and it used to scare me till going to my doctor for it, come to find out it was a muscle issue, they also said it could be gas, oh my was I relieved! In all honesty we are both at the age where its time for a mamogram, I need one and I think you should get one, just to check and make sure all is well, and Im sure it is, good luck!

Some symptoms that you should worry about are: finding a lump on your breast that wasn't there before, discharge from your nipple, swelling, redness, dimpling on your breast, or any change in the appearance or shape of your breast. These all warrant a visit to your doctor. You should also be performing regular self-exams. Because of your family history, you should schedule an appointment for a mammogram, too. As for the shooting pains, this is not uncommon for women. It can be a sign of hormonal changes or can be caused by your diet or stress.

Those are not typical symptoms of breast cancer. It is usually detected first either by X-ray (mammography) or by feeling around for it, not because of pain.
