I was disappointed in it, but not surprised by my disappointment. I found myself counting the rhetorical "tricks" he likes to use -- Mentioning the United States "safety" three times in the first ten minutes, to continue the illusion that we're under immediate threat of attack from forces in Iraq. Referencing a heart-wrenching e-mail that just happens to agree with him (as opposed to the gazillions I'm sure he receives which do not). Acting as if removing the troops who constituted the surge in the first place (a YEAR from now) is the same thing as actually reducing the number of troops we had 9 months ago. And basically refusing to listen to HIS PEOPLE.

I wish our system of gov't had a "vote of no confidence" we could pass. Because I've got zero confidence in this poor excuse for a leader.

Hello everyone.

I'm a soldier in the U.S. Army and have been for 3 and 1/2 yrs.
I re-enlisted for 5 more years while in Afghanistan and I'll end up with 8 total yrs. if I
don't re-up again. Anyways I wanted to tell you all the truth about
these so called troop reductions that are being talked about. Ever
wonder why the Government always says we are withdrawin so many
thousands of troops but somehow the troop level stays the same? It's
because they are lying to you and also telling you the truth at the
same time! Every time they say they are pulling out oh 5000 troops,
they do. What they don't put on the front page is that another 5000
troops are moving in to take their place. It's all part of the force
rotation. Don't let them fool you! If you truly want troop reductions
the look not only at how many troops are coming home, but how many are
leaving home as well. I and my unit are scheduled to go to Iraq later
this year...to replace those that are coming home which are part of the
current troop "reductions". Help us. WE ARE DYING FOR YOU!

I think that your description nails it. Pres. Bush is truly mentally ill. His record of accuracy and truth telling re Iraq to present is a big fat zero.

Pres. Bush is also greedy. He is very willing to sacrifice our sons and daughters in the Civil War in Iraq so that he may accomplish his political objectives and reward his military industrial complex supporters.

The issue is really extremely simple. The Shia hate the Sunni hate the Kerds and vice versa. We de-stabilized Iraq with our invasion that was based upon non-existent WMD's and unfounded/untrue insinuations by Bush and his Administration that pre-invasion Iraq was actively involved with our great national tragedy of 9-11. A de-stabilized Iraq will have its civil war...and it will be bloody...whether we pull our troops in 10 minutes or in 10 years. We have proven that we can do whatever we like militarily in Iraq or anyplace in the World. There is no military solution in Iraq only a political one and the Iraqis must come up with their own political solution.

us-soldier, thank you for serving and I will pray for your safety. I can't stand gw, hate this war but I will always support our troops. As for the speech, I did not even bother listening to that lying scum bag. Everything out of the White House (and especially his mouth) is propaganda, lies to keep the weak and infirm of the mind in a state of perpetual fear (and therefore more controllable). The real question is why was the dirtbag on national TV spewing? I think they are ready to unleash something truly horrific... May God save America. Thanks for the opportunity to vent and if you are a gw supporter reading this PLEASE seek psychiatric treatment as you are truly delusional.

Was I the only one who thought it looked silly for him to "read" the email from a sheet of paper??!! I mean the whole speech was read from a teleprompter.

I think Bush is an idiot.

I can not wait until 1/20/09...the end of an error!!!

Godsown said Bush is the worst president ever.. that is not so.. the worst president ever was Jimmy Carter.. Hilliary is just like him.. the second worst president we ever had was before my time...but Lindon Johnson was pretty close.. you can compare him to any of the other democrats.. before you make up your mind.. take a hard look at Fred Thompson.. he will tell you like it is and stand up to it.. Obama is a dreamer.. I agree it is time for Bush to go.. but not in exchange for someone like what the democrats are offering..
