(Your answer to this question will determine how patriotic you really are. A true American would NEVER, EVER, EVER compromise his or her liberties, for ANY reason.)

No. No true soldier or patriot would be willing to trade liberty for life.

Your question is based on a false premise. There is no correct way to answer it.
You say "A true American would NEVER, EVER, EVER compromise his or her liberties for ANY reason." OK, the 2nd amendment grants you the right to keep and bear arms, yet, there are states and municipalities that severly restrict you ability to do so. Have YOU compromised you liberty? The 1st amendment grant you the right of free speech, yet, if you yell "FIRE" in a crowded movie theater, you'll be arrested. Have YOU compromised your liberty.
Along with your rights comes RESPONSIBILITY. The government's first and foremost responsibility is the safety of it's people.
Your privacy rights are violated every time you go to the bank for a loan or any time you are REQUIRED to show your Social Security Number. When social security was establish, the country was PROMISED you SS number would NEVER be used for identification purposes. Try to get a loan, for a car, house, try to buy insurance, try to get a credit card, try to get a driver's license without showing you SS card.
By the premise of your question, YOU'VE compromised you're liberty if you've ever shown your SS card because you've compromised YOUR MOST PRIZED liberty, the right to privacy.
BTW, do you realize that anyone can get a list of your debts because it's public record? How's that for privacy.

My liberties can be won back - my life cannot.
So if the choice was certain death or surrendering some of my liberties - I would give them up and then begin fighting to win them back.
As for what you have in brackets - I find that offensive. Thinking they have the right to define what constitutes a "true American" is usually the realm of the screeching lunatics on the right such as Coulter and Hannity. From reading your previous posts I honestly thought you were above that.

As the man said, "Give me liberty or give me death!"'

Also relevant: "A hero dies but once; a coward dies a thousand times"!

And this: "Those who would trade liberty for security deserve neither liberty nor security."

Some things are much worse than dying. Staying alive is not at all attractive to me unless I can also live as a man.

I am not willing to give up one single liberty under the guise of protecting me or my family from terrorism.
There will always be threats to the US, our way of life and the very freedoms that make this country what it is. Responding to those threats by excusing illegal activities such as warrant-less wiretapping is inexcusable.

Chipping away out our freedoms and liberties one by one is how oppression and tyranny will come to the US. I would rather die protecting those freedoms than excuse those who seek to take them away.

After you're dead, you don't have anymore mortal liberties. The soul, if you believe there is one, if free from the body. That's a sort of freedom, I guess.
So my answer is No, I would not die to protect something I can't have if I die. I would RISK death to protect my liberties, but definitely not CHOOSE to die. If you live, you live to fight another day. If you die, your oppressors win.

Ben Franklin said it best "those who would give up liberty for for a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty or safety",
and yes,I would die fighting for my rights and country.Ben also said nothing is sure in life but death and taxes.

EDIT:just to add about flag burning,if you believe you have a right to burn our flag,I believe I have the right to unleash a serious A$$ whoopin upon ya,sounds fair to me.If it is so bad here ...leave,no one will miss ya.

Good God no. I would fight until I was dead. Conservatives bit*h about flag burning and speaking out against the president but those freedoms are what it means to be an American.

Liberties are everything. I was born free and I will die free. Period.

"It's better to die on your feet than live on your knees."

I would die before living under Sharia Law. No question at all.

But I, personally, do not feel that I ever have to make that choice. I consider myself pretty damned lucky to be an American - where we are all free to say what we want. Where women can get an education, drive - hell, even VOTE! (GASP)

We are far from perfect, but the very fact that millions of people are literally dying to get in here speaks for itself, doesn't it?

EDIT - Why is it that so many on the left complain about the loss of freedoms under Bush, yet quite a few of those *very same people* want to eliminate my right to own a gun?

NO! i would rather die free then be alive in bondage.
That being said it has nothing to do with being a true American ... it is not a nationalist thing it is a personal thing. It has nothing to do with my nationality, my race, my skin color, my political opinions or even the color of my underwear.
It is a personal conviction.
