In personal finance, this term is most often seen in a check register. The balance at the end of a page is carried to the beginning of the next page. Balance Forward is usually how this number is labeled.

It's the balance that's left after all transactions have been accounted for. Example - beginning balance = $10, less $2, plus $3, less $7 - the balance forward would be $4.

Some companies send you monthly statements. If last month you started the month owing 20, you charged 30 on your account, and you paid 15, then 35 is the ending balance, or the balance forward. Next months statement will start with the 35 and then show the new payments and charges.

In closing books of accounts or opening a new ledger it mean a carry forward amount from the previous transactions that serves as your beginning balance for the new ledger or new period.

well from previous month a car payment, say you didnt pay the full amount. the balance would be combined with next month statement. just one example
