That's a tough one if you are not sure whether or not a person died or/and where a person has been living. I've been wondering the same thing about a cousin of mine. To search several papers obituaries for years and check the records of every courthouse in the area is a daunting task. I've not been willing to spend the money but that is the sort of thing that private investigators are expert at.

Most people look in the obituary column of the newspaper.
Maybe this death is one that took place a long while back and or in another city. If you know someone else that lives in that city that can look into it and get back to you then do that.
If you had more details about how long ago you haven't heard from this person and where they lived, any thing you can tell then there may be people in yahoo who can help you..

If it was written in a newspaper obituary, try www.legacy.com
If not, then you will have to call someone who knows them
