I can only ever remember wanting to be a train driver which I am not.
Has anyone got the career they wanted as a child?

I wanted to be a school teacher since I was five years old, then a flight attendant and now I'm neither. But, things work out for a reason because some of the kids are so disrespectful today, and as far as an attendant, look at 9/11.

When I was nine I was probably still in my Tarzan phase. I've always wanted to live in a forest. Any job would do.

I've done a fair bit of woodland maintenance as a conservation volunteer, and field archery in the woods as well. I even worked as a tree surgeon for a while, but that was in an urban area.

My Uncle had a small engineering machine shop I used to hang around and 'help' in (as much as an 8yr old could) so I always wanted to do that (you could back in the 60's!)
By the time I left school I had worked on every machine he had and I had no trouble getting an apprenticeship and have worked in the engineering industry in dozens of different fields for around 30 years.

Of course. When I was nine or ten I wanted to be a bum which I am today. Which probably makes me the luckiest man on Earth. But I guess I am not happy being a bum. So probably being lucky doesn't necessarily imply being happy. But that's probably not what you asked, but who reads the answers anyway.

I wanted to be an actress, a lawyer, a wife, a mommy, and a teacher.

Today, I am an actress (although not professionally yet), still debating over law school, "too young" for marriage/kids, and I'm a social worker (as close to teacher as I really want to be).

I wanted to be a nurse, I ended up on the other end of that deal and have been a patient way to many times, I never had any of the dream jobs I wanted.
