Here is where your parents are coming from.
1. To have the procedure done correctly with the least risk of infections and other complications will cost between $1,500 and $2,500.
2. It may cause you future problems when seeking employment.
3. It will affect your speech (which is a fact).
4. it will affect how people judge you and will be negative.
5. If complications occur the medical cost could raise into $100,000. And most medical insurance will not cover complications from this type of surgery.
6. The chances for complications are very high when the splitting is done by a body piercer.
7. It is a want not a need.
Your girlfriend is not going to pay your medical bills if something goes wrong.
It may be your body, but it is being supported by your parents.
Why the big rush? If it is something your really want, why not wait until you are of age to get it without there OK, and when you are self supportive? Don't you owe your parents that much?
You should also be aware that many of your taste buds will be destroyed and alternated. And there is a danger of the split tongue to cause breathing problems and even obstruction when you fall asleep or may become unconscious (from injury or drunkenness and etc).
Wants and needs are two different things.

Forked tongue so you'll come out looking like a snake? You must have fell out of the stupid tree hitting all the branches on the way down and landing on your head. After this so called "girlfriend" ditches you she will forever brag how she got some dim witted guy to mutilate himself for her and you'll end up being the butt of every joke imaginable. Sure, at seventeen you know for the moment what you want but haven't given much serious thought to what you really need in life. Better listen to your parents or you'll end up regretting this foolhardy endeavor.

Hey its kool to think of body modification. However its FOREVER!!!what you like now isnt what you might do in 10 or 20 years..a close friend of mine developed a raging infection just to get a piercing. Since you live at home listen to your parents.. Once you are on your own and paying all of the bills then do what you want..Have you ever seen a bank manager with a bolt in his head.. probably not.. can you say "you want fries with that" you will be limiting yourself to under paid jobs for possibly a LONG time.

First~ That is sick, don't do it.
Second~ It may seem cool now, but think of 10 or 20 years from now. I doubt it'll still be cool to you.
Keep in mind this type of thing will/may effect how people look at you. Example: Future employers

you're 17 and living in your parents house, therefore, if they say no, the answer is no. next year, when you're 18, get your own place and your own job, you can do what you want.
