When is not the best time to get one?

It's harder to get a really good specimen during the menstual flow, and if you have an infection, your doctor may prefer to clear that up first as well. But you can do a Pap any time if necessary.

There are things you do that can also make it less of a good time. For the best cell retrieval, avoid intercourse or douching for 48 hours before your Pap is scheduled. Baths and showers are fine, and desirable!
