I don't think they want the occupation at all. There might be a few, but it doesn't seem like they are pleased with this whole mess. But I'm certain Bush wants it to go on after he's out--even if his successor is Democrat. Of course this will lead to more terrorism, and a Soviet-Afghan scenario.
space robot: you didn't win WWII; you helped to win it. Please don't belittle the efforts of Australia, Canada, Russia and other nations that were there first, and fought with you. I get bloody tired of opinions like yours.

Hello everyone.
I'm a soldier in the U.S. Army and have been for 3 and 1/2 yrs.
I re-enlisted for 5 more years and I'll end up with 8 total yrs. if I
don't re-up again. Anyways I wanted to tell you all the truth about
these so called troop reductions that are being talked about. Ever
wonder why the Government always says we are withdrawin so many
thousands of troops but somehow the troop level stays the same? It's
because they are lying to you and also telling you the truth at the
same time! Every time they say they are pulling out oh 5000 troops,
they do. What they don't put on the front page is that another 5000
troops are moving in to take their place. It's all part of the force
rotation. Don't let them fool you! If you truly want troop reductions
the look not only at how many troops are coming home, but how many are
leaving home as well. I and my unit are scheduled to go to Iraq later
this year...to replace those that are coming home which are part of the
current troop "reductions". Help us. WE ARE DYING FOR YOU!

Are you mental? What do you think happened after we won world war 2 and the korean war? We still have occupying forces in Germany, Japan, and Korea, so why does this surprise you? The only people who aren't okay with it are Al Qaeda and American liberals. The Iraqis are afraid we'll leave too soon. You live in a fantasy world where speeches and stacks of paper win wars, and if we have to go to war, it'll only last 2 days and no one will get killed. But, you asked this question, not to get a real answer, but to confirm and reinforce your own ignorant beliefs, so why do I even bother answering?

You people crack me up! Do you REALLY think that as soon as Bush leaves office that Hilary or Obama or Hilary AND Obama are going to order ALL of our troops home? You don't REALLY think that's going to happen, do you?
Sure you may see a reduction in troops when it serves a political purpose. A few thousand here to appease the left wingers, and then sending a few thousand more in a surge to appease the right wingers. But the bottom line is that there will be a US presence in Iraq for YEARS to come. To actually think otherwise is pretty naive.

The Iraqis don't want us there, at least most of them don't.
George can't force future politicians to do anything, they will do what they vote to do.
And trying to make the tribes quit fighting will never happen using Western politics, they have been fighting for a thousand years, we are not going to make them stop.
If we spent as much money on educating their populations as we spend on fighting this "war" we might have a shot.

What ever your political beliefs, you have to admit that the Dems are in a tough spot. They can't get enough of a majority to do much of anything in congress. If they do win in 2008 and end the war, then things go to hell; they're screwed. If they do nothing, they've pretty much cut their own throats. I predict they will win in '08, but only one term. People will villify them no matter what happens.

I haven't seen his speech. However, I have always expected a permant military presence in Iraq. Much like our permanant presence in Japan and Germany after WW2, and our permanant presence in South Korea after the Korean War. And our extended presence in Saudi Arabia after the Gulf War. I would not be surprised if we have military bases stay in Iraq.

Get your elitist mind off of George W. Bush for a minute and think the psychopath of Iran. Do you read the news? How often do you spend reading the news? What sources do you use? Are you aware of the Psychopath of Iran's recent statements about Israel?

This notion that Iraqis don't want us there is a flat out lie told by liberals who have to ignore the truth to win political support. This whole time, their number one concern was that we would leave, abandon them, and they'd be facing a total collapse. Just like South Vietnam.
