Career sounds like computer technician (A+ training)

There ins no college major for that. A+ training is certified by CompTIA

College majors are for other stuff. You *could* get a MIS/IT degree which would be kinda close, but a bit higher than just a technician.

At my college there were two options. The first was called the Information Systems major. With Information Systems, it is more focused on computers and how they relate to the business world and practical applications and problems/issues that may arise. There is also a Computer Science major which focuses more on actually setting up computers, such as writing programs, installing hardware, and analyzing the parts of a computer.

There are several branches within computer science/engineering one is called "network tech", and the other is MIS "Information Systems". Software engineers are responsible for writing computer programs but they may also have some background on hardware. The major is called 'computer science', generally.

IT or Information Technology.....is close. Most universities do not offer such a major, but many tech schools offer training to prepare you to pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams. You can also buy books and videos to study on your own. The cert is for Support Technians.
