To quote the Bard of Avon, "Methinks the Queen doth protest too much." If the report had been his own words, he wouldn't have thought to mention that he wrote it himself.

I'm pretty sure it wasn't his own sentiments. Everything I've heard about Petraeus leads me to believe that HIS strategy is to turn security over to the local militias, which would end up with a defacto tripartite division and let the "Central Government" serve as a forum for internal peace talks and revenue sharing.

Which would clear the way for a US withdrawal, except for a couple of tank heavy mechanized brigades of "advisors," who would act to help repel outside invaders, while preserving the balance of power among the factions and serving as a rapid response force when the militias have to tangle with Al Quaida or Hezbollah.

I think that an Army 4-star general officer tasked to report to the Congress of the United States will give his very best professional assessment of the situation as he sees it. To do otherwise would be a violation of his oath of office.

Why would he do otherwise? What are they going to do...give him a fifth star? (P.S. They haven't done that in 60 years)

I'm not a Bush fan, but I like to think that military personnel don't pimp policy.

You like to instigate don't you. Of course he's honest, he's a good officer, obeys without question, leads the charge himself, and has the good sense to think for himself when the need arises. As for the report..... never read a word of it. ;) xx

do you like jazz?

I believe it was a honest report, even the General stated that he had written it without the "help" of either the DOD or the White House.
