My male betta fish refuses to eat. It's been like this for the past 3 days. I'm really concerned. He just swims around and around the tank and doesn't even aknowlage that there is food in the bowl. I've only had him for about 3 months, but is it possible he's dying? I've had 3 bettas previous to him so it's not like I'm doing anything wrong...what should I do?

I just changed the water today- and to answer #1, I know he hasn't eaten because his food floats at the top uneaten and soggy.

What's his water temperature? If you've had bettas before, you are probably aware that if their water is too cold, they lose their appetite and become more lethargic. This also happens if they get too warm for a long period. Just be sure you don't have a malfunctioning heater, or that the room he's in isn't making the water too warm or cold (if he's near an air conditioner/vent).

I think once you have ruled out water quality and temperature issues (anything between 72/74 and 80 is good) all you are left with is dietary issues. It is quite possible that your fish is a bit of a picky eater, try a different brand of food, I have always found flake more readily accepted than pellet, or in a pinch pick up some frozen bloodworms (a package will last you a long time with just one betta) and cut/shave off a small amount and see if he likes that. Give him a day or two to get used to the bloodworms, but if he still not eating after that you may have a much larger issue. Be patient and don't over treat him, try the bloodworm trick and see if that works, Good Luck.

not eatting everyday isnt always a concern. But it can be if it goes on for about a week.

What i would do, is a water change and add some aquarium salt to the water. not alot but it will help kill an internal bug if he has one.

But i would really do a waterchange.

Edit: for the water change, 100 % water change, stress coat to deal with chlorine, and increase the water temp. Increasing the water temp will make him more active, and the metabolism rate will increase, I.E making him more hungry.

did you change his food or anything? if he is swimming around normal then he is probably ok. they can get moody sometimes and not eat for a few days -- its kind of normal.

He might be eating and maybe you haven't seen him eat.
