I usually stop and wave them across, I mean especially if they got there first. Now, if I definitely got eye contact with them & they wave me across in return, I simply hold my hand out as if I'm saying, "No, please go ahead kid sir/ma'am." That's just the way I was raised.
There were a lot of narrow roads & single-lane bridges when I was a kid growing up in the Chicago suburbs, now they've paved the roads & rebuilt the bridges making them wider so you don't see that too much anymore. Out here in Virginia, just down the road from me, there is a little creek with a one-lane bridge still that you have to cross one vehicle at a time (unless they are two compact cars, but that's still pretty close because the bridge isn't very smooth). It reminds me of my youth and the inherent goodness of people -- we still wave to each other as you pass by if you're out in the yard.
