It means don't waste your breath "throwing pearls before swine". (that's a bible quotation from the word of God, not an 'ad homonym argument').
It is useless for the sheep to pass resolutions in favour of vegetarianism while the wolf remains of a different opinion. The only person you can change is yourself. God gives the birds their food, but He does not throw it into their nests.
When my kids become wild and unruly, I use a nice, safe playpen. When they're finished, I climb out. Insanity is hereditary. You get it from your children. The reason grandparents and grandchildren get along so well is that they have a common enemy.
R E S P E C T ! They taught it in school when I was young. Now it seems to be an old fashioned, out-dated concept.
What's really important is respecting God. He alone is worthy.
