Most parents won't believe their teens when they say they're not watching cartoons but rather anime. The parents still think that the show is for little kids when it's rated teen. I just don't get it....what so bad in letting your kids watch a few Anime shows on a Friday night?

I don't get why a parent would have a problem with their child watching any type of cartoon, at any age. These days most animation is targeted to a younger audience, but it's not a crime to like to watch anime or cartoons if you're a teenager or even older. If your parent(s) are afraid that you're being immature for watching anime or cartoons, trust me when I say they're worrying over nothing. Animated entertainment is for everyone of all ages, that's why anime has such a wide variety of genres in different age brackets. Because some anime is INTENDED for older viewers!

Anime or rather Japanese animation has a wide variety of genres ranging from kids to adults. Most westerners and Americans still think that animes are just cartoons like Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny w/c is a big misconception and then there's an extreme concern by some parents that animes maybe too violent for their kids. Don't get me wrong but they have a point there not that I don't like anime I do, but animes do have a tendency to go overboard with violence during action sequences. For most Asians thats just ok but I think America still has a long way to go before they truly accept anime as it is.There are a lot of good animes out like Kiki's Delivery Service, Porco Rosso, Ah My Goddess and a lot more with good stories and non of the violence. If parents still think these titles are no good then you've got a big problem. I've been an animator since 1994 up to the present and believe me I know the difference with Warner Bros., Disney and anime types of animation.

Anime (アニメ, Anime? in Japanese, ) is an abbreviation of the word "animation". Outside Japan, the term most popularly refers to animation originating in Japan. To the West, not all animation is considered anime; anime is considered a subset of animation.

Another word for animation is cartoon...so in a way your parents are correct when the say you are watching a cartoon, bu tit may have advanced humor that is not suitable for children...you can tell your parents you are watching adult cartoons and see what they say then...or you can just let them assume you are watching a child's cartoon and see what you can get away with.
