I currently have a Compaq presario SR1214NX and it came with a 512 stick of RAM (PC 3200) If i buy a 1 GB stick is it possible to install it in the slot next to it or does the computer require to have side by side matching RAM (ex: two 512 sticks or two GB sticks) I'm looking for a crucial RAM stick. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

They should work in single channel memory mode. Matched pair is best for dual channel mode (if motherboard supports it).

it may be the two that the motherboard does not settle for/comprehend extra suitable than 512MB of ram or it may be that the pics card makes use of 512MB of the 1GB yet I doubt that. I checked the motherboard and it does not look the subject of accepting the ram so i'm no longer thoroughly useful...solid success

The RAM should work fine.

The only problem you might have run into would be if the computer was running dual channel mode or not. However, since the PC only has one stick of RAM in it at the moment, adding the extra 1gb won't harm anything.

Go for it!!!

As long as the open slot will accept 1gig you can. Ram tends to work better when it is paired evenly, but this will still increase your performance regardless.
PS. Crucial is the best site for RAM.

match ram works best, so i would get two 512 sticks to run dual channel.

Here is a reputable "guaranteed" memory provider. Look up your system at http://www.coastmemory.com This will show what your computer came with, what it takes, and how much it can take.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

If you have two sockets, then you can upgrade with any type and brand of RAM. As long as you get the right one with the correct pins and PC3200.(which happens to be mine too)
